Southern Fence & Iron LLC

We contracted with Southern Fence in April, paid half ($1100) up front, and were told it would take 6-8 weeks. They cashed our check sometime during those 6-8 weeks. When 8 weeks came around, we had not heard from them. After an additional 12 weeks of weekly - daily phone calls and ultimately asking in person for our money back, they finally came to install the fence posts. it took another 8 weeks for them to install the wooden fence, and as of today - 6 months after contracting with them - they still have not installed the iron fence, and I doubt they will. We are going to have another contractor come and complete the job. In addition, every time I called they said "Give us your number and we will have the owner call you back". Seeing as I was calling sometimes multiple times a day, this line got old real fast. The cost of the wooden fence was $600 on the invoice, so technically they owe us $500. Again, I doubt we will see that money. The only reasons they gave us were 1. we had a job where everything went wrong and we are delayed, and 2. we can't get workers to work for us. They never initiated a single phone call to us. That being said, the work the did manage to complete seems to be good quality.

The work done was excellent, and the price was very fair. My only reservation is with communication. The salesman who did our contract (son of the owner) was never again available on the phone again after we paid our deposit. We called several times to follow up, we did get the owner on the phone but it was often hard to reach anyone. The work was guaranteed on our contract to be completed by a certain date, and they did not meet that date - it was about a week later when they finished. Communication was frustrating. But the work itself is absolutely first rate, we are so happy with both the wood and iron fences, great work at a really good price. I would hire them again - with some caveats.

I liked the owner, I like the bid and I believed that this company would do a good job on a timely basis - that was mid-April - and Tom was upfront that it would take a "few weeks" - it is now 5 and a half months and I only have two posts - no gates - On August 8th, Tom said "i will get this done and won't charge you any more. I will end this for you Thursday morning and won't charge you anymore." I appreciated the accommodation - but I call daily and weekly and no gate and most of the time no response. Finally on September 15 - the owner indicated if I didn't have the gate installed the following day he would refund my deposit.This week I have called at least 6 times - twice I spoke to someone in the office who said they had to get in touch with Tom and he would call me back - that never happened. Promises promises and still no gate - so I want my $$ back. I paid the deposit with a reasonable expectation of good work and within a reasonable time frame that has not happened and the owner is keeps stinging me along - this is really unprofessional and bad service.
