When it rains it pours, especially at our home lately. I placed a call on Monday morning to Roto-Rooter, and I have to say, I was in a panic. Toilets overflowing, and filling the back yard with foul smelling (well you know). That was just one of the problems this morning. My husband, who usually takes care of these problems, was sandwiched between two cars on his way home from work on Dec. 17,2014. He suffered a broken neck, concussion, and brain injuries. Consequently, he has some memory loss. I had no idea where the clean-out pipe was, but Jerod Cobb came to the rescue. I could not believe that Stacy was able to send Jerod out so quickly and was so kind and understanding. She is a jewel. After some difficulty, the plumbing problem was repaired.
It is so wonderful during this age and time to have courteous, patient, and experienced technicians take care of your problem. It is a bonus when they are professional and patient with a hysterical woman who is quite out of her element.
Thanks Roto-Rooter for making my day a little more bearable. I hope that we both have a happy and healthy 2015.
I called the company on Monday, December 30th, 2013, and was given an appointment window for the next day, 10:00am to 12:00pm. I was also told I would receive a phone call when the technician was en route to my house. I did receive such a phone call on the morning of Tuesday, December 31st, 2013, at about 10:15am. All well and good, and I was pleased with having a tech come out so quickly.
At about 11:35am, no tech had yet arrived, so I called the company office to inquire. I was told the tech had "run into some problems," but was again on the way. I found this odd, since I assumed from the first call that the tech had finished his previous job and was at that moment driving to my house. If it was a matter of distance, I wasn't told so. If it was an emergency with another customer, I wasn't told so. Thus, I continued to wait, as my appointment window was still open.
The tech arrived at about 11:50am, and I showed him the problem: an outside sewer line that had clogged and/or backed up. With no questions from the tech or any probing of any kind, I was told that the price to clear my line would be a flat $247.00. The tech did tell me first, seeming a bit apologetic, that prices had risen "due to the economy." Here is where I want to be very clear: without any questioning on my part, or the asking of a breakdown of the job into labor, etc., I agreed to let the tech perform the job at the quoted flat fee.
As he was setting up, I began having second thoughts, and called another plumbing company. That company quoted me $112.50 just to come out and look at the problem. When I expressed a willingness to engage their services instead, explaining the pricing I'd already been quoted and the nature of the job to be done, the second company was quick to let me know that their price for such a job would likely be very similar.
I elected to let the original company I'd called, and whose tech was currently present, to continue with the job. The tech did indeed snake the drain, and my toilets flushed properly the first time he asked me to test them out. This was approximately 15 minutes after he'd started setup, and maybe 5 minutes after he'd done any snaking. Over the next 20 minutes, he asked me to test the toilets twice more, whilst running hot water in my tub. It may have been the span of 30 minutes, certainly no more than 35 minutes, that he was actively snaking my drain or running a camera down it.
In the meantime, I called the company again to express my displeasure at such a high flat fee. I was asked if the tech had quoted me a price beforehand; he had. I was asked if I'd agreed to the price; I admitted I had. I was then told I didn't have to let the tech continue, and the price for this procedure was the price, period. The young lady on the phone was professional, maintained a pleasant tone, but made me see, however I might feel about it, that I'd agreed to the price beforehand. This was nothing but the complete truth, and ultimately the job was done to my satisfaction under terms I agreed to beforehand.
In less than one hour, to include set-up and clean-up, the tech was done. My drain was cleared to my satisfaction. The tech then told me he was going to take 15 minutes to write up the ticket.
I graded the price as F in my original review, but that was really more of an emotional reflection on the situation, as opposed to a fair grade on the price I'd agreed to before the work even started. Price = C
My drain appears to be clog-free, which is what I hired this company to do, at a price I agreed to beforehand. So they did the job I asked them to, and did it well. Quality = A
I graded the punctuality as B, falling just short of an A. Yes, the tech arrived within the window of time scheduled, but more than an hour after a company phone call telling me he was driving to my house. His arrival more than an hour later, even if still within my scheduled window, went unexplained.
I graded the responsiveness and professionalism as A. The tech was courteous, and went about his work with apparent efficiency. The company office was courteous, but offered no explanation or remedy beyond "We told you the price, and you agreed to it." In other words, the amount I had to pay was on my head. They handled my frustration with professional courtesy.
Overall, I was leaning towards revising my Overall grade to B (up from a D), but decided to grade as an A. I may have thought the price was high, but I agreed to it. I may have wondered why it took so long from the 'we're coming' phone call to the actual arrival, but they were still within the window they told me to expect. Regardless of how I might have felt, it's true that the job was done quickly and professionally, and the personnel handling my displeasure did so in a courteous and professional manner, never belittling me in any way.
