Overall is was a stressful but learning experience for me. I hired him due to great reviews on Angie's list and reasonable price but realized that I need to hire people who are experts in the particular field. Like I said he is a great painter and that would be all I would recommend him for.

It was all right. They did a good job but it just took a little longer than what they said it was going to take originally. My experience was good.

From beginning to almost end it was enjoyable and not stressful at all. They were good guys and very funny. I just didn't like the end product cause it wasn't perfect. Also, my house had tons of dust all over it. It wouldv'e been great if they threw down the overlays over the couch and tvs. Huge mess to clean up, took a good two days.

When Nick came to give me an estimate he was very detailed about the work he was going to perform and how he would go about it. He also offered to do additional items such as fixing a spot where the previous homeowner had screwed in a piece of door frame and clean up some of the caulking in the upstairs shower. He quoted the job at $1200, he said his standard price was $550 per bath but there were some additional details in mine. He also said he would be able to finish the work before my sister would arrive from overseas to stay with me, which sealed the deal for me in winning him the contract.
When he arrived to do the work, he complained about having given me such a low bid, which I initially took as him trying to give me confidence that I was getting a good deal. He worked in my house for 2 days with one additional worker. At the end of the second day, they told me work would be completed that evening. Because I would be gone before they left, I paid before leaving the house. I even gave them an additional $200 because Nick began to give me a detailed list of expenses he had not accounted for. Mistake.
Apex left my house with paint splatters on the toilet, sink and flooring. The beadboard they installed had flaws throughout and a large square cutout for the plumbing behind the pedestal sink that is plainly visible from all angles WITH the old wallpaper showing through. There are visible lines from the wallpaper and previous hardware that I was told would not be there. The ceiling was not repainted in the shower and the additional items he said would be taken care of (shower/door frame) were undone.
I have learned the lesson now, to NEVER pay before the job is done. I am now spending the final hours before my sister gets here, trying to clean up the mess they left behind.

Overall, it was a very good experience. They were polite, did their job and didn't leave until it was completed to my satisfaction. They even offered to pick lunch up for us while they were out! I would use Nick again and in fact will have them do our back bedrooms this summer.

It was a very good deal. They just did a good job. They were very friendly. They did what they said they were going to do and did it in a very timely manner. I used to do some painting before so if I would have charged someone, I would have charged at least $600 because I am a very good sales person. They were right on time. They were supposed to be here at 8 o’clock, and they got here at 9 o’clock. They sat and ate breakfast which was not a big deal because they told me that they would have it done in 1 day and they did just that, so that did not bother me. I would rate them highly and use them in the future.

Overall, there were a few other things I asked him to do and I thought he would do a better job at. However, the job he did on the roof was good.

"This client was and still is a dream customer.her husband had just very recently passed away and iwas asked to prepare her house and property for sale so she could move to be closer to her daughter in alabama.i was able to complete many projects which prevented us from calling in plumbers electricians roofers and movers. god rest his soul was a very large man 6'4' and 270.i myself am 6'5'300.i wear a 15m boot. Her husband also wore a 15m.i can tell you from a lifetime of experience it is difficult and expensive to find custom fit steel toe leather industrial footware. He also shared my love of antique tools.now every time i put on a pair of his perfectly fitting boots and bust out one of his old school and extremely well made tools i say a prayer of thanks that the good lord guided me to these clients. they are now and always will be in my most sincere prayers of thanks."

Her and I are both very pleased with the quality job that he did. We loved it so much that I have already called him back out to do some more work for us, and have more planned for the future. He does great work at a great price.

Overall it did not go well. Nick was several hours late because of an emergency hot water heater replacement for another client and he didn't find time to let me know. The wood he selected was not the same as the ash in the existing book cases, but not too bad a match. He bought and charged me for almost double the material needed, but did give me the receipts so I could return the excess. One piece of material was too short and he had to make another trip to get the proper length. He cut that piece too short and had to make another trip to replace it. Although I asked for a mitered cut at the corners, he made a square cut. He did stain the wood, but I had to do the finishing. His labor bill matched his estimate except for an extra $20 to drill a hole in each book case to accommodate power cords. I have asked another company to do the project over and Nick's work is going on my burn pile.
Response from Apex Painting & Remodeling
"the member falls into the impossible to please category.arrival time was approximate not definite.72yr old widowed previous customer receives priority.existing bookcase was 35 yr old yellowed ash.hard to match if not impossible.choice of wood was pre approved by customer.stain color was personally chosen by customer.choice of square cut was intentional to match surrounding woodwork.i offered to keep excess material and credit the difference customer declined.the members micromanaging and ocd behavior made a small and relatively simple job drawn out and uncomfortable.the member asked for many unnecessary extras that i threw in for no charge.but to no avail some people cant be pleased.nevertheless god bless you member."

Apex Painting & Remodeling was actually brought in as a subcontractor because of my desire for a built-in bookcase that my potential painter could not do. He gave me his bid, which encompassed the whole job, to paint my den, formal living room and dining room and to build a custom recessed book shelf to match one on the other side of my fireplace. It was higher by several hundred dollars than the painter who brought him in, but I just felt he would do a better job for me and I was right. While I knew the first guy was getting half of the pay, he rarely was on the job and when he was, he rarely did any work. My children called him "the lazy one". But I was so thankful he brought Apex in to "help" with my house! I provided the materials and the owner/operator of Apex, Mr. Roberts provided the skill and labor. I wanted to see the quality of the work before I hired Apex for my entire project. I have just purchased an older home that needs updating. The den was dark paneling which either had to be removed and replaced with sheet rock or floated and painted over. I chose to have the paneling painted over to save on costs. Mr. Roberts prepped, primed and painted the walls. I also had him put up a chair rail and he brought and installed baseboards around the entire den, as we noticed there were none in the room. At first I just wanted to paint the room one color, but then changed my mind and added the chair rail and one color on bottom, one on top and of course a trim color. This did not faze Mr. Roberts at all, he was happy to accommodate me. I also chose a semi-gloss, but after two coats of semi-gloss was applied, I was not thrilled with the look, so he suggested one coat of flat, which is what we did, only he felt it needed two coats of flat for excellent coverage & that is what he did. No Complaints. I decided to add crown molding in my formal rooms with the corner blocks, only I did not like the corner blocks at the store, so he customized them exactly as I wanted. My rooms are painted beautifully with no overlaps or drips. He deglazed and sanded my trim twice before enameling, so it does not scratch off. I know, he had me try to scratch the surface! Also, no trim paint on the wall, no wall paint on the trim! The built-in bookcase proved to be more than Mr. Roberts bargained for due to the structure of the house, but he did a wonderful job. In fact, another contractor was over yesterday and asked what finish my bookcase had been before. He was surprised when I told him they were newly built and had always been just as they are. I would certainly hire Apex Painting and Remodeling again. In fact, I have. He is going to help me with the rest of my home. I am so pleased that Mr. Roberts took the time to do the job right and paid attention to details. He could have easily taken advantage of me, as my husband recently passed away, and I am a little lost when it comes to things around the house. To be honest, I was overwhelmed with the task before me, but Apex came in, calmed me down and took care of it. I like that Mr. Roberts usually works alone, so he can control the quality of the work. He will explain what he is doing and why, if you want him to, otherwise, he is very quiet. And he does not mind if you watch him work. I would highly recommend Mr. Roberts at Apex Painting & Remodeling, in fact I have already given his card to several friends.
