ABITA LUMBER CO INC & HARDWARE

We were given a lumber bid from Abita to build our new home. The bid was for $36K, but when the first drop of lumber was delivered the invoice was for $50k. When asked why the invoice was more than their bid, they stated it was the framer's fault. This is when all the finger pointing began. The framer and contractor both stated it was Abita's fault for falsely under bidding the job. By the end of the framing, the bill was $75k. My neighbor was building at the same time and a much larger home also got her lumber from the same people, and her bill was only $38k. When Abita was asked to explain this, they could not give an answer. Also this same lumber company supplied our job with undersized engineered i-joists that they knew in advance of sending them out to our jobsite that they were inadequate for the load they would have to carry. They did not notify anyone of this causing us to have a structural deficit in our garage ceiling. We would have never know about this if it had not been for the manager of the location coming out for an unrelated issue. It was then that our TRUE TROUBLES with this company would begin!!!! We told our salesman that we would not pay for the incorrect joists, but would only pay for the new correct ones that would now have to be installed next to the incorrect ones,$3700.00. Long story short, they are now sueing us for this amount. We have tried to work this out with them, but they refuse to talk to us. Buyer Beware.....if you plan on doing business with Abita Lumber, be prepaired to be ripped-off.
