When I first met Mr. Hall i felt that he was honest and knowledgeable. The first time i realized that something was wrong when they put up the foundation wall and there was no holes for ventilation. I told him that we needed the crawl space ventilated, and he said that he would condition the crawl space. He told me this way was more energy efficient and I believed him and let him proceed. The framing went terrific, but then the drywall and the floors were about 18 inches higher than the porch. I paid my own money to put a geo-thermal heating and cooling system into the home. Mr. Hall had 6 or 7 different types on insulation to choose from, and he was never able to tell me the R value of any of the types. I am a dentist, and I had a patient that owed me for my services. I told Mr. Hall from the beginning that this patient was going to be doing the flooring to pay off his debt. Mr. Hall did not want him doing the tile and suggested I use his man. Mr. Hall ended up using his electrician and charged twice what it would cost a tile worker. They never finished installing the tile, but I ended up paying $4.25 per square foot when i paid for the materials. I had to go back later to wipe off the grout from the tiles and I had to seal the grout myself. My crawl space has been a mess from the beginning. All through the building process I kept asking about the crawl space and Mr. Hall never did anything about it. Mr. Hall quit building my home officially at the beginning of June and up to that point he was nasty with me on the phone; using foul language and screaming at me. I had not ventilation in my crawl space or the attic. The building inspector told me that if I did not get ventilation he would not give me occupancy of my home. I had standing water in my crawl space, and we ended up hiring a second builder. Mr. Hall sprayed my attic with spray foam on the ceiling but not on the floor of my attic. The inspector told me that you can not condition a crawl space until it was dry, and when he started to build the home the crawl space would never have a chance to dry out. The HVAC business was not made aware of the crawl space being conditioned and when they found out that he was going to cut return holes in the floor to vent the crawl space they told me it would ruin the geo-thermal system. My second builder was able to get the crawl space vented, had an expert come out to inspect it for free, and now it looks nice. I paid Mr. Hall for cabinets, but he never installed cabinets and never gave me my money back. Mr. Hall does not want to do anything. He told my neighbor and my banker that he quit, but he has never told me to my face. I have not heard from him since, and I am glad about that. I have not received any receipts for his expenses. He came and took $29,000.00 with a receipt for the framing package from me. Within 5 days, he was able to get another $28,000.00 from the banker without a receipt. The inspector told me after my final inspection that this builder would not be building any more houses in Clark County again.
Description of Work: I hired Mr. Hall to build a 1.5 story home built on a crawl space with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths.
