He broke the window in the process of exchanging out the sill. He went and got a replacement window and installed it. The job took far longer than expected because of this and I felt it needed to be monitored... which allowed for conversation which made it even longer. Job done.... Several months later, there was a considerable leak in the window; I had to climb up and recaulk a gap around the window, which had opened up to a quarter inch or more. This shouldn't have happened with quality work.
Nice guy, cool marketing gimmick with the ambulance. But lots of stories and unsatisfactory quality. If you see him, ask about his snake....
The journey from the initial contact to final result left much to be desired. I first contacted the owner, Doc Marrs, after researching Angie's List, especially after noting that his services were being offered as an Angie's List "special" (2 hours of handyman services for $99). I knew the project would require more than 2 hours, so I skipped the "deal" and simply called him to get an idea as to how much the repairs would cost and what would be involved. When I called Mr. Marrs, I made it a point to advise him that I got his name from Angie's List (and thus to expect his performance would be reviewed on Angie's List).
Doc Marrs arrived early in the evening and I showed him where the door rot was allowing water to damage the subfloor. He did describe the work to be done and provided a written estimate. I told Mr. Marrs that I was planning a trip out of town for the holidays in six days, so I clearly asked him WHEN the work could be done. Mr. Marrs said his schedule was clear to begin the work the next day. Given my travel plans, he promised that the work would be completed within five (6) days. He required a deposit of approximately one-half of the cost of the project in advance ($425) with the balance due within 48 hours of job completion. I agreed and thus provided the $425 deposit to him with a Visa, which he immediately processed through his smart phone.
Day 1: I waited the next day for Mr. Marrs. He called around 10 am, stating that he had a couple of other customers to attend to and planned to commence work around 2 PM. I continued to wait. Around 4 PM, Mr. Marrs called and asked me to measure the various parts of the door. I advised him that he needed to do this (he only measured the door width the night before). About 3 hours later Mr Marrs arrived with the door jamb replacement materials and he then told me that it would be best (for me) to paint these items prior to installation. Mr. Marrs said he would complete the work the next day (Friday).
Day 2: Friday, the oil-based paint was not quite dry, so work was put off to the next day.
Day 3: Saturday morning, when Mr. Marrs arrived with his helper. They removed the door and rotted jambs and proceeded to reassemble the doors to the jambs. This took them about 5 hours. Mr. Marrs cut the top piece incorrectly and reinstalled the door with the promise that the upper jamb would be replaced on Monday. Meanwhile, the door seals were not properly set.
Day 5: Monday morning, Mr. Marrs called and said that the door company was "closed for inventory".
Day 6: Tuesday, more excuses (again, another day wasted waiting for him).
Day 7: Mr. Marrs called and said he would be over to finish the work around 2 PM, when he appeared with a different helper. The upper jamb piece was replaced and the door was re-installed (about 3 hours). However, the floor was not yet repaired, the deadbolt was not aligned and the trim had to be re-installed. I was forced to cancel my travel plans.
Day 8 thru 11: No work or appearance. HOWEVER, despite the fact that the work was NOT complete, Mr. Marrs had charged my credit card for the balance due (minus most of the additional cash he asked for while doing the work). I reported the UNAUTHORIZED charge to the bank which advised me to contact the merchant, Mr. Marrs, to complete the work.
Day 12 (Christmas eve): I contacted Mr. Marrs at noon per the bank's advice and he promised to be over "within the hour". Several hours later he called to say he was delayed by trouble with his work truck (ambulance). It was getting dark when Mr. Marrs arrived and actually completed the work. Mr. Marrs never raised the issue of the final payment (since he had already paid himself).
