The good: water line replaced using camera, so the front yard did not have to be disturbed (just a small mound of dirt at the curb); workers were polite and professional; price was in line with others The bad: not the neatest (left behind trash and a lot of dust and debris in basement that I had to clean up); a little hard to schedule (I was originally told one date, then I was told a different, later date and then they ended up showing up on the original date)

I called on Monday and they were able to come out the next morning. Jamie, the plumber who came, arrived promptly at 8:00 a.m. as scheduled. First he showed me a couple of tricks that I could try in the future, but that didn't work. So, he brought in the heavy duty sink drain snake and went to work. He was here for an hour, was very courteous and professional and got the job done! He also suggested that once a month, I should fill both sinks with hot water and Dawn and then pull the stoppers at the same time. This should clear out any grease build-up. I never put grease in my drains, but he said even the little bit that gets rinsed off of plates and what the dishwasher cleans off, can cause a clog to form, over time. Good to know. I was very pleased with his work and would not hesitate to use Joe Lay & Sons again!

I needed a plumber to repair a leaking water main where it enters my house in the basement. The leak was on the outside of the foundation. Joe Lay Plumbers sent someone out to look at the problem and provide an estimate. They correctly diagnosed the problem and gave me a very reasonable estimate. The repair required digging four feet of fill on the outside my house’s foundation and replacing a section of leaking pipe. The problem was caused by a poor original installation. We agreed on a date for the repair and Joe Lay had two plumbers perform the work. They arrived on time and completed the job quickly and competently. I was satisfied with the work, the plumbers and the price. I will use them for any future plumbing needs.

Very well. I was very happy to have the plumber, he really seemed to know what he was doing. When I called the office, I was told that they were no longer running the Angie's special, but since I had already paid, that they would honor it. I don't understand why the offer was still valid on Angie's list, I hope someone is looking into it.

They were assigned by my home owners warranty company to fix a shower that would leak into my basement when I showered. FOUR trips later and if anything the leak is worse. My home owner warranty has now mercifully assigned a new plumbing contractor. Because it was covered under my warranty I didn't pay much out of pocket but boy did I waste a lot of time and gas going between work and home to meet these guys and all got nothing!!!!

I was so disappointed in this service. They were able to fit me in the day I called but only pulled the toilet, ran the snake and when they couldn't find the clog, the nice, polite gentleman that came said someone would call me the next morning (a Sat) at 8am and they would bring out the big snake on Saturday and go from there. The toilet remained pulled (and it was my only toilet) because they were supposed to return the next day. When I had not heard anything by 10am, I called and got the emergency number who said they'd call. 3 hrs later, I called again when I hadn't heard a thing. Again by 4pm I had no call so I called the emergency number and told them to cancel the service call and I'd find someone else (which I did and they came the next day and stuck with me until we had a resolution). I wasted a whole Saturday waiting for someone to call or show up and nothing. This was a very unprofessional and disrespectful way to conduct a business. To date I never have received a call of apology or recognition that they just left me hanging. I cannot give a good recommendation based on my VERY poor experience (they may well be good plumbers but I have no way to know) with the lack of follow-up or professional courtesy.  The young man that came that first day was very nice, neat and professional and did what he could.  When I called that first morning, I was told they were busy and I clearly stated that if they couldn't fit me in, to just let me know so I could find someone else. I understand folks are busy. I was then thrilled when they showed up that afternoon only to be let down by the lack of follow up. I hate when I can't give someone a great rating but I cannot I good conscious do so.

Lousy. I had to use them through my homeowners insurance. First appointment they never even showed up. Second appointment the guy was there for maybe 15 minutes before saying he thought the drain was the problem and leaving. When he came back the third time he replaced a gasket. Didn't solve the problem-leak still there. So I called to have them come back out. When they came they were 30 minutes late and the guy they sent this time kept saying he had no idea how the previous guy fixed the gasket on his own because it's a two man job that requires taking out drywall (which the guy didn't do). Although this new guy was nice he didn't seem to have any idea what was causing the leak. Needless to say, after I'd spent 30 minutes waiting for them to show this last time I called my homeowners insurance and asked them to let me use the plumber I'd previously used through them. Joe lay and sons may be an on company but I was very discouraged by their lack of punctuality and the fact that one of their employees questioned work that another one had done. Doesn't instill much confidence. I won't be using them again.

My daughter just purchased a 10 year old home. The first time they tried to use the outside spigot, the water shot inside the basement instead of outside. Since they had a home owner's warranty, they scheduled repair with the recommended service provider, who was Joe Lay and sons. As a long time Angie's List user, I was a little concerned after reading mixed reviews about this provider. However, we had nothing but a positive experience. The appointment was scheduled within 24 hours. The technician stated it was a pretty straightforward issue and a fairly simple fix given the basement is not finished. The repair was completed within 30 minutes. He took the time to show us the broken pipe and instruct my daughter on how to prevent this from happening in the future. (Previous owners probably didn't remove hoses in winter). We then found out that the homeowner's warranty doesn't cover this type of issue (figures), even though it was through no fault of the new homeowner. If a claim is covered under the warranty, the homeowner is responsible for $100 deductible. The usual cost for this type of repair was $ 175 for the labor and $50 for the copper replacement pipe. Since the job had been fairly easy and not covered under the policy, they gave us a discount and charged $150 which was the cost of usual deductible plus the parts needed for repair. We were very thankful for the price break. The technician seemed knowledgeable and was very courteous. I would not hesitate to work with this company in the future.

How did it go?  Details??
It was excellent!!!   On a scale of 1 - 10 -- it was a 15!!     First they called me right away to schedule, and worked with me to find the soonest time that worked for both of our schedules.
The rep who came to my home was Colt ... he was awesome!!!     He went above and beyond and even helped me fix a couple other things!    He was personable, polite, very thorough and seemed to be great at his job.  He is a very nice young man.
He is an excellent representative of Joe Lay & Sons Plumbing.
I will specify Joe Lay & Sons for any and all future plumbing needs (through warranty company or independently)
I often hesitate to bring people into my house, that  I do not know.    I do not  feel that way about Joe Lay Plumbing.
I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a plumber for plumbing needs.
They are prompt, caring, work to get you an appointment ASAP, dependable, thorough .... I can't say enough.
I am surely one who will complain when a company is not satisfactory, the work, the technician, etc  .... and I do.
But at the same time, when there is a company and service rep who are really good (in this case exceptional) I will  (and have) write, email or call them to compliment them and let them know just how good of a job was done, how the service rep was such a great representative of their company.. . . and that I will be a return customer!!
I have nothing but great things to say about Joe Lay & Sons -- and highly recommend them!!

I submitted an Angie's List SnapFix on Sunday, December 21st which included a video of the water pressure in the shower of our master bathroom.  We have a Kohler Flip shower head.  Included in the video was a recording of the water pressure in our second bathroom shower which has the same shower head and no water pressure issues.
I received a phone call from Joe Lay Plumbing on Monday morning, December 22nd scheduling service on Tuesday, December 23rd at 8:30 am.  The person was very pleasant on the phone.  At the same time I received a message on the SnapFix app the contractor would be calling to schedule an appt for an estimate.
Two gentlemen arrived promptly at 8:30 and were very professional.  I took the first gentleman up to the shower.  We turned it on, he saw there was an issue and proceeded to take the shower attachment apart at the first joint closest to the shower head.  He turned on the water and saw there was not an water pressure issue coming out of the hose, so he proceeded to rinse the screen off.  He then took the joint closest to the wall off to check that screen.  He then rinsed that screen off.  He put the joints back together and the water pressure through the head was fine.  He then removed the head for me to soak in vinegar to clean any build up off.  The whole process did not take 15 minutes.
I asked him how much I owed and he said he would have to check.  He went back out to the truck, seemed to call someone, returned to the house and stated it would normally be $175 with a 10% discount, but would give us a 25% discount so the bill was $140.  I did not say anything to him because I knew he did not make the poor judgement call on the charge.
$140 for 15 minutes for such a simple problem was outrageous.  This is the first time which I have used an Angie's List contractor that I have felt scammed.  I have hired many contractors off of Angie's List and they have all been fair, reasonable and have earned my trust.  I have given MANY referrals to those contractors and they have been very appreciative.  I will never give a referral for this plumber.  They definitely left the impression they are more concerned about money than building a long term relationships.  Too bad, they will not be considered for future bathroom remodeling project.
The only reason they did not receive an F was that they were punctual and the employees were professional.

The plumber realized it wasn't leaking from behind the shower but from not having enough caulking around the handles - an easy fix which didn't require drilling holes in the wall. The toilet was running and a piece inside was broken. He fixed it quickly. Have had no more problems. The gentleman was polite. professional and on time. Would recommend them to anyone.
