We had one small wet spot in our yard r/t our septic system. We hired Scott Excavating to fix the problem. He would not give me a price without digging because he said he didn't know what the problem was. I asked for a ballpark depending on the problem. He finally said maybe $4500-$7500. I hired him because he said they could start immediately and that they would bring in topsoil and reseed the yard when they were finished. They also said they could be done by the end of the week, or at the latest Monday of the following week. It took them more than 3 weeks to finish the job. My entire yard was dug up and they brought in 8 loads of (topsoil) it looked like field dirt. It was full of rocks and debris. They did not level off the yard, so now there's a kind of drop off at the bottom instead of a gradual hill. The worst part is they repaired the old system and put in a new system because the materials the system was built with originally are no longer used and were falling apart. That's fine, but when we started up with the new system after a few days, waste was flowing out the bottom into the neighbors yard. We switched back to the old system after calling Scott. We were told to let the ground dry out good and then we could switch back to the new system. We waited a couple of weeks and the same thing happened. I called Scott Excavating and spoke to Scott, the owner, again and he said he would have the health dept come out and meet him here, but it actually took the neighbor calling the health dept to complain before the problem was addressed. Scott didn't even show up, he sent his employees that did the work. The other major issue was the yard itself. We paid him extra to reseed the yard. The only thing growing were weeds and corn. We actually had corn stalks in our yard. We let it continue to grow so Scott could see the yard when he came. They did not prepare the yard. All of the dirt they put down was old hard clumps with rocks. and then they walked through the yard throwing (grass seed) and dropping straw. There are bare spots all over the yard along with the weeds and corn. It looked bad enough the inspectors from the health dept noticed and commented. Scotts employee spoke to Scott and told us they would reseed. The health dept told the employee they want to the yard dug up in a few places so they can make sure nothing is damaged. They were supposed to call the health dept and let them know when they had it dug up. We're still waiting. I've sent Scott an email telling him how dissatisfied we are and that we don't want the yard redone by them, we need to hire a professional to repair the lawn and we want the $800 back for that. That isn't even counting the dirt we paid for. Didn't even get an acknowledgement that I sent an email. This whole process was started the middle of June, here it is the beginning of September, and it's still not resolved. I would never hire this company again.
