Tree Trimming & Removal

Mr. Gant knocked on my father's door at 1011 Sharpe Street in Murray, KY 42071, and said he was looking for work for he and his crew - tree trimming & removal. He saw that dad's yard might need work. Dad took pity on this man and went around back and negotiated with him to remove a dying tree from the backyard for a total cost of $325. About 20 minutes later, the tree was laying in the front yard, ready to be cut up and transported away. Mr. Gant knocked on the door again and told my father a story about him forgetting that he needed to pick up someone around the corner at a local deli and he needed to get to the bank before it closed, could my dad please pay him right now, and he'd be back in 20 minutes to finish the job. Dad said, "sure" and wrote Mr. Gant a check, because he wanted to help. Mr. Gant never returned and the enormous tree on the front lawn started killing the grass, and it had to be taken away. Dad tracked Mr. Gant down and asked him why he didn't come back to finish the job he had been paid in full for, and he made up a ridiculous story about a flat tire (the bank is next door and the deli was less than a block away). Mr. Gant finally came back to dad's house about 5 hours after he said he would that day, and he asked for additional money to cut up the tree and haul it away. Dad closed the door and called me. I paid $165 to a reputable landscaping and tree service and they had the entire mess cleaned up by morning. At this point, Mr. Gant at the very least owes us a REFUND of $165. After talking to neighbors, we've heard this is a regular scam that Mr. Gant is pulling in Murray, KY. Beware of the unlicensed con artist!
