We could not be more disappointed with M and J landscaping. My husband and I bought a house last year that had original landscaping by M and J as well as yearly maintenance/upkeep. We did not do yearly maintenance last year because we knew we were going to install a pool. Fast forward to this year. Met with Mark (owner of company, very nice guy) in January and he directed us to our pool company based on the fact that they have worked together for many projects in the past. Upon completion of our pool in May (still having pool issues, but that is a totally separate issue...mainly having issues due to the fact that the pool is sitting in a giant mud pit, backing up the pump--not good), we contacted M and J to begin work. Mark returned my call and stated that he would send Tyler (an employee) to give us a quote. Tyler came out and spoke with my husband, I was on my lunch break via conference call, we went through every single detail of our landscaping plan. He sent us a quote in a few days that seemed reasonable, however included only a few items (10) or the 25 ish that we had discussed. I had him come out again and specifically requested a more detailed quote. I received it a few days later, slightly higher, with a few more items listed. (15/25). At this point I didn't want to be a pain, plus I decided maybe this was standard for landscaping quotes (to not write down all work to be done, this was our first landscaping project). I spoke with him on a Tues. and told him that we were having company coming that weekend and if his company could complete the work by then we would go with them. He told me that shouldn't be a problem. That was 10 weeks ago. (He originally told me this was a 1.5 day job)
Every time we talk with Tyler (which is rare because he usually just avoids us, does not reply to texts, calls, etc.), he assures us that it will be done soon and that the delay is because of the rain. They have come out and finished some work, but not all. We just want them to finish. We have been nice, been mean, been annoying, been understanding, been kind, been rude...and everything in between, we are just desperate at this point. We are starting to think they may have just decided not to complete our house. This business has a good reputation, so we are just so confused and disappointed in their communication as well as their completion of work in a timely manner. Hopefully the end product will be beautiful, I cannot comment on that since they have not finished.
We also went with Tyler's irrigation guy ("because it will be quicker and he can get right out here"). The system is supposed to be shut off until completion of project, however following a bad storm this weekend, the sprinklers were on and would not stop. We reached out to Tyler ASAP. He said he would let his guy know. Guess what...no response...from anyone. We just shut the main water off.
Mark called my husband and in a very polite way, told him that we can keep calling, however that will not make the yard dry up or the work get completed any more quickly. We like Mark, we like Tyler...they seem like good people. WE JUST WANT OUR PROJECT FINISHED!!!!! We understand they have no control of the weather, however I have NEVER heard of a landscaping project that was supposed to take 1.5 days still be uncompleted 10 weeks later. I find this completely unacceptable. and insane,
The last conversation I had with Tyler was 2 weeks ago. He told me that the sod cannot be cut due to the rain. Then made the mistake of telling me that everyone was very busy due to home'o'rama. I was shocked. So our house is being bumped to work on a more expensive and important project? Who says that? I was stunned. I responded, that while I realize our home is not a "home'o'rama" home, it is important to us and we would like it completed. He told my husband that they would be out to lay sod the next day. Again, no show. I reached out to Tyler (again, he didn't call or text us...I just showed up at my house with no sod)and he stated that everything was too wet. I'm done. There is no reason to contact him again. We are currently looking into other companies to complete our work (at our neighbors probing...I think they feel sorry for us at this point). It's the talk of the neighborhood, no reason to spread the bad news or reviews, our neighbors are doing it for us.
We literally do not know what to do. They will not return calls or give us a work timeline. I guess the next stop in the BBB.
