Over the fall and winter, we had a couple of nasty wind storms in our area and lost some shingles. We have only lived in Kentucky for a couple of years so we didn't know any roofers. I checked Angie's list and asked our friends who have lived here for years. The recommendation was Oldham County Roofing.
William (owner) from Oldham County Roofing stopped by the same day I called for an estimate and said that the roof could likely be repaired, but probably should be replaced as there were significant enough issues. After consulting with our insurance company, the adjuster recommended replacement.
After receiving the check from our insurance company, I called William on a Monday to get things started. He dropped off roofing samples that afternoon. We selected from the colors provided and called the following day to place our order.
I was very surprised to learn that they had an opening in their schedule to do our roof that same week and Saturday was forecast to be the best day for weather that week. The material arrived on Friday and the crew (along with William) arrived on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM and immediately set to work. Weather was great with clear skies and sunshine. William indicated that they should be finished the same day.
We had to leave town that day and left soon after their arrival. When we returned home the following day, the roof was 95% complete as they were short 5 bundles of shingles. They actually had ordered two more bundles than recommended by the insurance company, but still ran short. They covered the small affected area with a tarp and returned on Tuesday to complete the job as Monday it had snowed again so the roof was too slippery and dangerous to work on. Tuesday was much better weather and they completed the job in the morning.
William made an appointment with us to stop by on Tuesday evening to settle the account and pick up the insurance paperwork. So from beginning to end, it took just over a week from placing the order to completion.
Just a couple of other items for your consideration:
William is genuinely a good guy with a great personality. He has a lot of experience after having worked for his father in the roofing business prior to starting his own. He represents his firm very well by explaining everything thoroughly, answering all of our questions and was never pushy, allowing us to review his estimate and make our decision at our own pace,
His crew was a group of professional and polite guys who worked quickly and expertly. The shingles were HAND NAILED. No nail guns were used. William explained that hand nailing provides a more precise nail placement which is necessary on 130 mph rated shingles. Also, nail guns can 'blow through' shingles so by hand nailing, they had more control of the nail depth as well.
They even reroofed our little tool shed to be sure that it matched the shingles on our home.
The stack covers and all flashings were spray painted to match the roof, making a very clean and nice looking installation.
The final result looks fantastic. All nails and debris were picked up and removed and our gutters were cleaned of debris as well. They even opted to use a small trailer for the haul away instead of a dumpster because our concrete driveway is fairly new and still curing so he didn't want to damage it.
Overall, I would highly recommend Oldham County Roofing based upon my experience with them.
In Business Since: 1992 yet The Better Business Bureau does not know Oldham Co Roofing?s name, their URL, phone number, address, nor the owner?s name.
Oldham Co Roofing replaced the roof on my garage and two other out buildings on 10-13-12 and were to replace my gutters on the same day as promised by Craig McClurkin. Craig McClurkin promised to complete all work before payment was due. The roofing work crew damaged the fascia on my garage. Craig McClurkin proved himself to be untruthful. I did pay for the roofs repaired but after McClurkin did not replace or repair my fascia and my gutters that day as promised nor the next and would not answer his phone, emails, nor messages, I stopped payment on the check.
William Wells, owner, responded with VERY CRUDE, VULGAR, AND THREATENING messages on my answering machine which I still have.
I sent Mr. Wells an email conveying my understanding of our agreement and agreed to pay for the roof replacement as a good faith gesture as long as he was in agreement of my understanding as outlined in my email. He agreed and I paid him.
The gutter installers showed up with white gutters and the job only called for one white gutter and six brown gutters. They installed the white gutter and used gutter hangers every two feet. I purchased one white gutter from them to be used at a later date and they supplied me with hanger to be used every two feet. When they returned with the brown gutters they only installed gutter hangers every four to five feet. I contacted the Jefferson County Building Department and inquired about gutter installation I was informed by a supervisor that ?Good Construction Practices? was a gutter hanger every rafter which in my case is every two feet and the Jefferson County Building Department said the job was incomplete and the contractor should not be paid until adequate gutter hangers were installed. This was after they were paid.
My fascia Oldham Co Roofing damaged was not replaced.
I informed Mr. Wells I would file a complaint with The Better Business Bureau If he did not complete the job and I keep my word.
