Dry Cleaning Service
$25
I am relatively new in town and have dealt with this dry cleaning establishment approximately 4 times. I had only left very basic items in the past which required dry cleaning which presented no particular challenge. They were cleaned adequately.  The attitude of the staff for the most part is not very welcoming, a couple of times they seemed downright disturbed that I bothered them by coming in to do business; I have rarely seen a friendly smile.  (That usually indicates management is not so good-another warning sign I should not have ignored!)
So last week I dropped off a favorite little jacket that goes with a favorite dress. The jacket had two ornate clusters of beads.  The woman who was taking my garments saw the beads and had me sign a release stating they could not guarantee there would be no damage to the garment.  Okay, yes, how stupid I was to sign the statement and leave my jacket with them.  But we sign releases all the time with doctors, etc., because the worst most rare thing could happen...  I told myself I was being paranoid about nothing.  For hours my gut told me to go get my jacket back and I ignored it so I will readily admit I am most upset with myself.  Needless to say, the inevitable happened and I got my jacket back missing one of the clusters of beads...cleanly missing.  Again, the beads are in two clusters and the clusters were attached to the jacket.  So when I say cleanly missing, it was as if a button had come off and someone had removed all the broken thread etc.  I pointed this out to the woman when I picked up the jacket and asked if maybe someone could find that cluster so I could reattach it.  She said she would send it back and ask them to look for it.  This is a small town so I was hoping against hope it was somewhere.  She told me someone would call me in the next day or two; this was Monday evening.  Friday morning, after no calls, I called them.  They redirected me to the 'downtown' location.  I called the downtown location, I didn't even have to give my name, they knew exactly what I was talking about.  The woman I spoke to there said she had left a message at my store so they could contact me.  She told me something that led me to believe the strand of beads that formed the cluster had broken.  Really!  How roughly did they handle this apparently rather delicate jacket that they didn't just cause the cluster to fall off like a button, which can happen, but actually broke the strand of beads that formed the cluster.  She offered to find some buttons or something and I told her I just wanted my jacket back.
I realize the jacket had a 'delicate' circumstance, but it was not the first time I had had it dry cleaned.  I have other beaded, delicate items that I have taken to other dry cleaners and NO ONE has ever asked me to sign a release or damaged my garments.  I have been asked to pay extra for items which required more delicate handling, which I have done without complaint.  I just thought in our ridiculously litigious world, signing releases for your dry cleaning was just the new thing.  Maybe I have a romantic view of how dry cleaning should go but I feel if I am paying you to clean my garment, you will take the required care, charge me accordingly, or not take the business.  I should have never been so stupid to deal with a dry cleaning business that is clearly incapable of handling delicate items.  They apparently just want the easy stuff and the crazy rates they charge for that these days.  I did not give them Fs across the board because they did adequate work up to that point with a not very enthusiastic staff.  If you just want pants and shirts dry cleaned, I suppose they will do, but if you want something treasured clean, go elsewhere.
