JOHN'S GARAGE

My bride's GMC Jimmy has 138,000 miles, so we expect something to go wrong from time to time. It had been losing a quart of oil about every 1,000 miles. When we had the oil changed at another auto maintenance shop, the technician said the car was leaking from the oil pan gasket. I cringed because that can be an expensive repair. Based on a friend's recommendation, we took the Jimmy to John's. We arrived well after noon on Tuesday. John did a quick inspection and said the leak was not from the oil pan, but from somewhere else around the engine. Depending on where the leak was, repairs could be in the $300 range. Could we leave the car over night? I expected that because Olive Hill is a very small town and nearly all auto parts must be ordered from a nearby city. John called on Thursday morning to say the repair was finished and it was much cheaper than we had feared. When my bride and I arrived to get the Jimmy, we had to wait 15 minutes or so until someone remembered where the gremlins had hidden the keys. The car runs fine and we saved so much money my bride stopped at three yard sales on the way home.
