They did more prep work than any painter I have ever used. They actually stripped it down past all 7 previous layers of paint to the wood, which is not typically done. Their brush strokes were clean and without drops, runs, etc. Price was well under the other bidders.

Brief daily chats with owner Randall, employees Brian, Mike, Don or Randy,
depending who was assigned to my project for the day, were important,
very positive and professional. Painting was done by brush and roller.
Staining was done mostly by spraying with one
crew member shielding critical areas from over spray. The quality of painting was
very good, especially so on the newer screened porch. Not one of 29 screens had
paint where it didn?t belong. Two or three places on the whole job where I saw
a run or drip were immediately corrected. Randal worked with me as we talked
about alternate ways to repair three boards with prior water damage.
Good long lasting solutions were found for all.
Stain spraying became a bit problematic. A day was lost because the company owned sprayer
failed. It took some time and false starts to get the rental replacement working
properly. The wood of the decks and fence sucked up way more stain than I estimated
and less evenly than expected, but, the final result is okay. The job did start on the Monday as scheduled.
With snow one day and scheduled no-work day because of high probability of rain that
did not come, the job stretched to two weeks. This delay was okay with me because I
was aware of the adverse consequences if rain had fallen on fresh paint.

Randal and Brian showed up on Monday morning at 9am as they said they would, and got to work. Brian did most of the painting. They arrived at our home at 9am each morning (3 days) and worked until about 4 or 5. We understood that we could have gotten cheaper painters, but we wanted a good job and no hassles. Randall was easy to work with and even helped my wife decide on accent wall and advised a bit color. Brian was polite, and he showed up and just worked and worked. I would use LVX again and would recommend them to a freind, family, or neighbor.

Home owner's feedback:
" Randall made the comment that he tends to be higher cost than his competition when he prepared the estimate. The follow statements are noted at the bottom of the estimate: "All painting guaranteed against defect in workmanship and failure of paint for two years by LVX Painting. Sherwin-Williams provides a lifetime warranty on Duration paint and 25 years warranty on Superpaint."
One of the painters on the job noticed that the color selected for the doors and shutters did not appear to be the color he thought I expected. He asked me to look at the color; it was not the color I expected. The painters stopped and cleaned up for the day since it was already around 5 p.m. Randall came by the following morning and took the paint back to the store with the color chip we used for selecting the color and had the tinting adjusted to the correct color before painting continued.
I also decided that the color I selected for the garage doors would be too much of a contrast and made a color change before any painting was done on the garage doors. This resulted in additional cost because it required adding another color to the work."

Prompt, professional service. Came earlier than first planned when our schedule changed. Even helped move some furniture out.

We recently moved into a home that was painted prior to moving in. Unfortunately, prior to moving out, the owner puttied nail holes and repainted them with a paint sheen that did not match. We contacted LVX Painting because they ran an add in our neighborhood newsletter and we felt it was important to support to support a local business. A 20% winter discount was also in effect. They had, at the time, a single review on Angie's List.
LVX returned our call promptly and set up the initial estimate in a timely manner. The estimate was done by the owner Randall on the spot, but we did not agree to it until the following day as we had some concerns as to the price. The original price for the main hallway staircase and one wall of our bedroom staircase was $1400.00 for the labor. (the labor rates for the painting were quoted at $35.00 per hour) As this seemed somewhat high, the following day the owner clarified the price by telling us that we would have 2 workers for the first full day for the hallway staircase and the same for the second day. The bedroom staircase was to be taken care of with yet another worker for a full day. (40 labor hours x $35.00 per hour=$1400.00) While this seemed like an excessive amount of labor for the work to be done, we just assumed there would be lots of taping of the moldings and scaffolding to be erected~so we gave LVX the benefit of the doubt.
On day one we had one painter for 4 hours
On day two we had one painter for 4 1/2 hours
On day three we had one painter for 5 /2 hours.
Instead of 5 eight hour days which equaled 40 hours of labor and the $1400.00 original estimate, we had 14 hours spread across three days. There was no taping and no scaffolding. This was equal to paying one painter $100.00 an hour!
If this work could be completed by one person over a period of of 14 hours, why the quote of 40 hours and three workers?
When Randall (the owner) came back to settle the bill we were very unhappy and wanted an adjustment to the bill. His justification was that he gave us his fastest and best painter, so the work was completed quicker than expected. Nonetheless, his price justification prior to us contracting the service, was based on man hours. He called it a win situation for all of us. Maybe for him. He was walking away with $1000.00 after paying the painter and didn't even do any of the work. When he asked what would make us happy, we said that we would be happy to pay for the number of hours it took to complete the job.. He said no. We even offered to pay for half of the completely over-estimated 40 hours, but he would not give us this satisfaction either. His offer was for a credit of $200.00. (We also feel that it should be noted that our painter was not receiving the full $35.00 hourly wage) The conversation became very heated and we just wanted to end the ugliness of it all, so we took the $200.00 credit just to get the owner out of our home.
We would have had no problem paying for a job that was priced "per job", but Randall justified his high price with labor costs that were never necessary and never happened. It is his job as a professional to know how to negotiate and estimate a price for a painting service. Our painter, Brian, did a beautiful job and was very courteous. In the future I would recommend him as a painter before I would recommend LVX Painting. We felt extremely taken advantage of and it was the first time since moving to Kentucky that we have experienced anything other than genuine kindness and professionalism. Are we happy with the product? Yes. Were we happy with our painter? Absolutely! Were we happy with the overall experience? Not at all. If we were taken advantage of this way as his clients, we can only begin to imagine the level of gratitude and fairness he shows to his employees.

Response from LVX Painting
"Sometimes you just know going in that there is a high potential for problems. With these clients, I thought it was that they were going to be very picky, because they wanted to do a lot of re-painting just to cover some nearly invisible patches by the previous homeowner. I bid about $1200 and they agreed to it. Concerned from the beginning, I brought one guy - my best painter. He absolutely knocked it out of the park. Normally we would set up scaffolding and tape edges as the Members said they expected, but because of his skill, he cut every line perfectly without taping, and he found ways to reach every spot without the awkward scaffolding sometimes needed on stairways. The Members asked for one area to be touched up, and we did that. I thought we'd done well to finish early. I was happy to offer them $200 rebate ($1070 final price) because the job went quickly, but they were still unhappy. Prices are based on labor and materials, but once agreed to, the price doesn't go up if it takes longer or needs more paint, but neither does it go down if we are more efficient than the bid. Usually when someone complains about price, they have other concerns and I tried to find out what they really wanted. As they said, the discussion became heated, but all the heat was on their side. Member began stomping around the house and yelling. At this point I inquired if even a 50% rebate would make them happy and he said no. There seemed no room for reasonable discussion and so I took their final payment and left. My crew works very hard to make sure that customers are happy. Most are pleased with both quality and price. I'm sorry this didn't work out for the Members."

Great painting at a great price. These people were so nice. The estimator returned my first call right away and was able to come out the same day. He even printed out the estimate right at my kitchen table. The price was good and a crew showed up just a few days later. They were very professional and kept everything spotless as they worked. I never had to trip over tools or worry about cigarette butts in my garden. They finished on schedule and took every call I made to them when I had questions. The workmanship was excellent and they asked me to look things over and give an ok before they took my check. Couldn't be more pleased.
