I had researched several companies through Angies List and received bids from four.  Coincidentally, I mentioned the project to my mechanic when having car serviced, and he told me of a roofer that he'd used himself and knew of several other happy clients - James W. Smith and Sons Inc.   I called Tom (sales rep) and that day he came to review the project.  The next day the roofer (family business, so father, Donald) came and walked the roof and told me what he'd do and what parts might be bad (I suspected some of the boards he found to be bad).  They told me where they'd be buying the shingles and materials from, and that I could go visit the store and pick the color and type shingle I'd prefer, if I wanted - rather than from a pamphlet.  They'd recommended, Timberline shingles, which I'd heard of, and opted for.  Once I made this decision, work started within a week, and was completed in 3.5 days.  The crew always arrived on time, worked steadily - taking a short mid morning break and a 1/2 hour lunch, ending their day around 5:00 pm, but only after they had buttoned up the section they intended to complete that day - always leaving the roof ready to receive rain.  They had a couple ground helpers providing supplies to the workers on the roof, and cleaning up used materials on the ground.  They hand-nailed every shingle, and cleaned up the job site each day, and completely the last day.  Donald, and Tom were both available for questions, and took no money until the job was done to my satisfaction - not even a deposit.  They did an excellent job, and were a pleasure to have complete such and important home project.  After the project was done, Donald walked around answering questions, and a couple days later, Tim came by and asked if I was happy and answered questions.  He didn't want any money until I was happy with every aspect of the project.  Well, the job was done right, so there was nothing left to do but pay him for a job well done.  My roof is very steep ,requiring the use of roof jacks, as-well-as the roof on the shed.  I'm very happy with the outcome. I was a little stressed over picking a good company, and though James W. Smith and Sons Inc is on Angies List, they don't have many comments and don't show as one of the premiere companies.  James is now deceased, and his son Donald, who has been working the company for 40 years, may not keep the information on Angies List up-to-date.  If I ever need another roof, or anyone I know, I'll recommend JamesW. Smith and Sons Inc.

I spent about $4000 on that service. They did an excellent job. They were very professional, cleaned up everything and the end product was really nice. They did a great job and I would definitely recommend them to others. They were easy to work with and the pricing was very good.
