 + -1 moreI was staggered at these comments. Rather petulantly, he also suggested he could simply take the doors away and we could owe him nothing. I bit my lip at his offer and tried to act in a more adult fashion than he was. After the weekend I wrote & stated I would not accept the doors as they were. He would have to redo them again. With a little more level-headedness on his part, this is what he eventually agreed to do. The actual job was eventually finished to our satisfaction, but he has since refused to supply us with a job completion statement, ignoring all reminders and attempts at contact. What skills Mr. Vance possesses are somewhat undermined by his unprofessional approach to customer service and apparent inability to deal with problems in a manner expected from a skilled tradesman. A most disappointing experience for our major remodeling expense for 2006. Note: This is a severely edited report to comply with Angie's List's 1000 character limit.
Description of Work: 1) To restore original 1920 entry doors. 2) Custom-build new exterior storm doors per historic district rules. 1) was good, the doors taken away and returned within 3 weeks looking very attractive. 2) Things went surprisingly awry. Mr. Vance and 2 workers turned up with the storm doors, which looked nice & well made. Later, with installation underway, I saw one of the workmen rubbing their finger over the glazing of 1 of the doors. I then overheard Mr. Vance clearly say, "Don't keep pointing at it or he'll notice it". Naturally curious, I discovered one of the glass panes was badly scratched. I then received a MOST unprofessional reaction. Mr Vance evidently did not like the fact that I had noticed the flaw in the glazing. I was first blamed for hovering over the job, then accused of being too particular in my expectations. He felt the issue was a small problem and one I should not be concerned about. A visible glazing flaw at eye level was, in his opinion, a small problem.
