I have been a loyal customer of Z Salon for more than 15 years. I’ve been to every location and utilized a variety of services by countless professionals. Never once have I felt compelled to file a complaint, post a negative review or to even request a do-over of my haircut. But this last time, last week, was radically different. The experience left me feeling degraded, frustrated, and angry. DO NOT GO TO CLARISSA!!!! and here’s why. . . I walked into the salon last Saturday with shoulder length curly hair. I showed Clarissa a few photos of a haircut I had had years earlier - they were close up full face photos of myself. (I only say this because it’s not like I was showing her pictures of Farrah Fawcet! My expectations were completely within reason.) My current hair was noticeably longer than the hairstyle in these photos. Despite these shared pictures and my request for her to remove the length from my hair - Clarissa gave me, instead, a puffy mushroom bob with neck fringe - looking NOTHING like what I asked for. Frankly it didn’t even resemble any one ‘style,’ it was more like a bad fusion of hairstyles - a shag, a mullet and a bob! I couldn’t leave the salon looking like that, so I reiterated to Clarissa my haircut preferences. She soon realized that I wasn’t satisfied and said, “I’ve gotta reschedule my next appointment who is waiting in the lobby.” I should probably mention that my 17 year old daughter (also a decade long client of Z!) was still in the waiting area when Clarissa approached her next client to reschedule. My daughter said that the client was understanding about the delay, but that Clarissa clearly was not. When Clarissa returned to her station, she donned a straight edge razor and began to hack at my hair - like a sickle to an unruly bush. Clarissa never asked me if I was comfortable with the use of this blade and had she, I would have said no! I opened my eyes and began to look around at my hair scattered on the floor. I literally started to frantically run my fingers through what was left of my hair. At that point I just wanted to go home - to get the **** out of there, and I did. But in five days I would return to the salon for my “do-over.” It should be no surprise to learn that it took a team of professionals to right the wrong that was my hair. When all was said and done I had to go ‘boy short,’ cutting off most of the highlights I put in 8 weeks earlier, while also now having to shave the back of my neck. I will remain forever grateful to Bethany and Jacqueline for giving me such a great cut! It’s not what I originally requested but it’s also no longer some freakish hairstyle from a bad ‘80s horror film! Management handled it great. They apologized and corrected it. I will continue to be a loyal client of Z Salon and I’m sorry for feeling the need to post a one star review. Obviously you have Clarissa to thank for that. (I will however begin posting positive Yelp reviews to reflect my typical experience at Z.) Lastly, every good story has a subtle touch of irony and this one is no different. As I was living that nightmarish experience and desperately trying to find the right words to describe what I wanted and didn’t want - I said to Clarissa, “Please don’t give me a ‘Karen cut!’ aka an inverted bob. In the end, Karen cut or no, Clarissa manifested the Karen in me, and hence my first Yelp review. The irony is not lost on me. Thanks to Z Salon for giving me this opportunity to share my opinion. Writing this Yelp review has proven to be most therapeutic.

they did a great job

Excellent, as usual. Hair coloring is done by staff who specialize in that area. People who cut and style hair only do that was well. I have always had a good result. Note: no tipping is allowed, so while the cost may seem very expensive , it basically includes the tip.

Z Salon is the best in Louisville.

jThis salon is excellent in reminding you of your appointment. You receive a reminder through e-mail and simply respond that you will or will not make the appointment by e-mail. If you can't make the appt. then you can reschedule at that time. They are very punctual. I have been going here for the last several years. My stylist does a nice job each time I visit and i have been very satisfied.

Good pedicure, very relaxing massage. Nice person.

It's always a great experience to have any service at Z Salon.

I was new to the area and needed to make an appointment during my time off. The soonest appointment available was two weeks (which is understandable); however before they would even tell me an appointment date they insisted on describing their services (which are in levels, the lowest level being the lowest price for a simple cut, etc.).  Ultimately no appointments were available during the time frame needed so none were schedule.
During the whole process the person on the phone was rude and condescending. She made me feel as if she was screening me to see if I could afford their services.

At Z Spa and Salon you are treated like royalty.  Service providers are very professional and facilities are excellent.  It is a bit pricey, but worth it.

My experience with them was wonderful.  The cost was a little high but I was lucky as I had a gift certificate to use.  They do a great job.  It is very relaxing.

My experience with them was great. They have different levels of hairstylist. They always go with a wash and hand massage. They usually charge $25 and $40. They don't accept tips. I love them. I will use them again in the future. I actually have an appointment in a couple of weeks.

I love Z Salon & Spa. They are great. They did a wonderful job, the experience was fabulous. They woman who did my highlights did a really great job and she was very friendly. The stylist who cut my hair, her name is Temira and I have seen her before, did a fantastic job and always does. They are very friendly, professional and the work is very high quality. I have been using them for years.

The surroundings are very relaxing and serene. There are quiet areas where you can wait between services and they are very good at scheduling multiple services back to back. The staff is very friendly and helpful. While the facial was good, I felt the massage was more generic and didn't focus on my problem areas. It was relaxing, but for the price, I've had better.

They have great service and really excellent stylist. They have great hair care products. They are fairly expensive.

I go to see Angelia, she will listen to you and give you advice if you need it. I have never had a problem with them. You can get anything done there they do it all.

This is a great business. Friendly atmosphere and quality work.

Z Salon & Spa don't have just flat rates. It depends on the stylist you use and what kind of coloring you decide on. I have naturally curly hair and the lady who cuts my hair has naturally curly hair and you can't find somebody who just has natural curly hair. It's not like the typical straight hair. I won't go to anywhere else besides the two girls that I use. You get a complimentary head massage and a hand massage. They offer you water, coffee, tea or soda. It's just a very well rounded Salon.

They are wonderful about appointment reminders via text message. They are always very courteous, offer you a beverage when you walk in, take your coat, etc. The stylist always spends time talking about your hairstyle, what you like, what you don't like. They give you a hand and head message while you're getting your hair washed, and always take plenty of time to style your hair after the cut.

I will never go back to them.  A person's hair stylist should not be like a box of chocolates.  There is no continuity.  Basically, their master stylist needs more education.  I went to them for three years and the stylist I liked, moved to another place.

This was the most amazing pedicure I've ever experienced!  Unfortunately, it's also expensive so not somewhere I could afford to regularly have them done, but as a treat, completely worth it!

I have natural curly hair and I don’t trust anybody with my hair and I have found the best girl here in town.  She is wonderful and it has taken me a lot of people to finally find her.  I am already schedules with her for the rest of the year.
