About us

Universal Appliance Service has been under the operation of Charles Thompson since 2001 and is a family ran business. We offer residential and commercial appliance repair. We have seven technicians that cover the Louisville and surrounding counties, and Indiana; we also have a sealed system authorized technician. Our repair turnaround time is 3-5 business days if the part is available locally and not on back order. For any product where parts aren’t available locally it takes 7-10 business days. We charge an $89 service call which covers the trip charge & diagnosis, after diagnosis is made the technician will provide customers an estimate for repair should parts be needed or additional labor. For customers whom have multiple appliances to be serviced we charge a $35 diagnosis fee for each additional appliance. We warranty our labor for 30 days and parts for 60 days.

They came 5 times (4 for the ice maker). A for effort but F overall. I have two long dents in my hardwood where they pulled the refrigerator out without putting something down and they won’t call back about that. Also had to come back once because they didn’t have a button on the ice maker and another trip left the water on when they couldn’t get the ice maker to work - if my daughter hadn’t come home and found it the floors would have been ruined!

I was referred to this company after having gone through a nightmare with another local appliance company. I cannot say enough how wonderful my experience was! The ladies in the office were very helpful when scheduling my appointment. It was rescheduled once due to the technician being out on my original date, but they called at 8:15 that morning to let me know that they’d need to reschedule (my appointment was between 12-5). I was rescheduled for 2 days later, and John was my assigned technician. He determined the problem in less than 10 minutes and said he’d order the necessary parts for the repair. Mind you, the other company told me that I was “just putting more than 15 clothes in at once and causing the washer to make those noises” - actual words. I received a call when the parts came in, and John and CJ came back to make the repair. Both men were respectful, professional, pleasant, knowledgeable, and informative. They even went into extra detail about what may cause certain things to happen. Answered questions I had about my dryer (not being serviced) without even being annoyed. Both men treated my home and appliances with extra care. I would absolutely hire them again! Most companies you encounter treat you as if you’re a “warranty” customer who doesn’t pay, but I never once felt that way with this company. Thank you!!!!

I used this service because it was under warranty and recommended by the manufacture.  The tech showed without the parts that are clearly typed on the work order and after 15-20 minutes he notified us that the appliance had a screw sticking out that was it.  We further investigated that he used a seal and to cover my busted cabinet that he busted.  Oh he signed the work order that he fixed the issue and yet the dishwasher still doesn't latch and I still don't have a kick plate.

"We apologize for the technicians ill performance, however, the technician that was out to the customers home is no longer with us as of 4/18/17 (before knowing of the incident). The Mr called and advised us of the situation today and came in with his receipt the technician left. As a result we are ordering the proper parts & the service manager will be returning to repair the unit and assess the damage. We have insurance that takes care of these types of matters, we know it's inconvenient, but we will handle the problem to the best of our abilities to make as painless for both parties."

This company has absolutely horrible customer service.  They had to reschedule with us FOUR times and they NEVER returned my calls via their work number.  I would not recommend this company to anyone.

"Our records show we rescheduled the customer once because a technician called out sick (appointment moved from 9/4 to 9/8) and upon diagnosis on 9/8 we found a bad drain pump, ordered the part and once received on 9/12 we tried to contact for parts install. It looks like we never spoke directly back with the customer; we got word from the extended warranty to return the part and the customer was cancelling their contract with them. Our apologies if the customer service was bad then (2.5 years ago)....our office personnel is exceptional now."

When the appointment was made, the scheduler told me if I had the range hood, the repair man would install it.  He was just to call them and say he "had an add" (their lingo not mine).  The repair man said no way - it was a two man job and he could not do it.  He went outside and made a phone call.  When he came back, he said another guy could come and help, but I would need to pay them $100 each.
Later in the week, my brother (who is not a repair man), installed the hood by himself in less than 5 minutes.
Shame on Universal Appliance.

I HAVE DEALT WITH THEM TWICE. THEY FIXED IT THE FIRST TIME BUT THE SAME PART BROKE LATER ON. I THOUGHT THAT THEY COULD HAVE FIXED IT BETTER THE FIRST TIME. THE SECOND TIME THEY COULD NOT FIND A REPLACEMENT COMPRESSED UNTIL AFTER THEY PAID ME OFF AFTER TELLING ME THEY COULD NOT FIX IT. AT LEAST THEY DID GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK, BUT I WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED THAT THEY COULDN'T JUST FIX IT AGAIN.

THE TECHNICIAN THAT CAME OUT THE SECOND TIME WAS MORE PROFESSIONAL THAN THE FIRST ONE. I COULDN'T REACH ANYONE RIGHT AWAY. THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PART AND THEN IT HAD TO BE BACKORDERED. WE WAITED ALL DAY ON A SATURDAY AND THEY NEVER SHOWED UP.

THEY'RE A PRETTY GOOD COMPANY. WE HAD A PREVIOUS COMPANY THAT CAME OUT HERE AND DID A SIMILAR JOB AND WE TOLD THEM NOT TO COME BACK. THEY WERE SLOW TO RESPOND, BUT UNIVERSAL WAS RIGHT ON TOP OF IT. WHEN WE CALLED THE COMPANY WHERE WE BOUGHT THE REFRIGERATOR, THEY GAVE US UNIVERSAL'S NUMBER AND SAID IT WAS THE BEST. THE PRICE WAS FINE, ACTUALLY WE WERE EXPECTING IT TO BE MUCH MORE. WE THOUGHT WE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE THING, BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO REPLACE THE PART THAT WAS BROKEN.
