S&S decided to take it one step at a time. First step is to drain the old fluid out and replace it with a higher quality that may sealed the slow leak. Second step will be to rebuild the transmission. But they suggested to try the simplier, more cost efficient way first and then drive it for a week or two and see how it goes.
The next step will be to rebuild the transmission, but he seemed optimistic that new fluid may do the trick. He had the car for 1 full day.
I absolutely would use them again.
Again, I'm very picky about my vehicles, and I like to see what's going on when something breaks. I asked if they could show me what broke and explain to me how it happened. The gentleman doing the rebuild was very knowledgeable and took the time to walk me through everything. He showed me what had broken and explained different scenarios which may have caused it. He even showed me the side by side comparison of the old parts vs. the new and explained why the new were better.
To throw a wrench into everything, I was taking a 500 mile trip 7 days after I dropped it off at the shop. I had to have the vehicle for my trip. Mel and the guys worked their tails off and got it to me with 2 days to spare. When I got it back, I noticed an odd noise that wasn't there before. I figured out that it was coming from the exhaust up near the engine (headers). I knew they had to take the exhaust off to get to the transmission. I took it back in and within 4 hours they took the exhaust off, replaced the gaskets, put sealant on them, and re-installed. The noise was gone and all was well. I was still nervous about taking such a long trip so soon after having it worked on. What if something were to go wrong. I'd be stranded. Mel assured me that nothing would happen. He gave me the after hours number and told me that was his cell phone. If anything happened, call that number and he would make sure that everything was taken care of, even if he had to come get me himself.
I paid a little extra to get a two year, 50,000 mile warranty. I hope I don't need it, but it is there if I do. It's been about 5 months since the work was done and everything is great. Overall, Mel and the guys are awesome. I would highly recommend them to anyone and will go back there in the future if I need that type of work.
