Where to start? First, it has taken a considerable amount of time to get over my anger regarding how the caretaker treated me on the day I dropped off my dog to be boarded. If it hadn't been for the fact that it was spring break and there was no where else to take him (I called 8 other boarding facilities and there were no openings) and the dogs there seemed well taken care of, I would have never have left my dog there (though cancelling my trip crossed my mind).
The caretaker attitude: as we began the process to admit my dog, she began to sneer, snicker and make demeaning remarks about my requests to have by dogs personal blanket with him in the kennel, as if it was a stupid owners idea that the dog really cared about things like that. She then proceeded to pinch the blanket like it was infected and fling it aside on the floor. Then, while discussing feeding routines, she promptly informed me that they wouldn't mix the dry dog food with the one teaspoon of wet because it would make my dog fat and ruin his teeth. I tried to explain that our dog (who came to us from an abusive background) would not eat well and this was what was working for now to get him to eat. She finally said they would do it because it was our request. But, when I picked up my dog, not one package of wet dog food was used!
I do have to say that when I picked up my dog he did seem well taken care of. He did not appear stressed, not overly playful, but was still happy. He had also received a bath either the day of pick up or the previous day. If I had to pick a place solely on my dog's reaction to being at a boarding facility, I would have considered taken him back; But, your experience is also in how the employees treat you and make you feel, and because of the rude head caretaker I will never take my dog back to this kennel again. I have been to 2 other kennel facilities in Louisville and Lexington (I travel) and have had great experiences, for myself and my dog.
I will never recommend Royalton Kennels; they essentially do what and how they please with your dog and you are just the silly stupid owner who knows nothing about taking care of your family member... is this really the experience you would want?
