We received a flyer attached to our mail box from this company giving us an estimate of how much their services would cost for cutting our lawn. We did need a lawn service for the summer months and the brochure stated they performed the services we needed. My husband called them in the evening hours and talked to a person representing the company and inquired about how the price was determined for mowing our lawn.
She assured my husband the price quoted was legitimate and the workers, father and son team of Ivan and Nick, would come out to look over the property and discuss their services. The time for them to come out was the following evening but the team showed up a day early. Overlooking the early arrival, I met with them and showed them what we wanted done and what we didn't want done.
We agreed to let them put us on their schedule to begin mowing on a particular day. The father, Ivan, thought the bank grass would be too long if they waited to mow it on the scheduled date, so he planned to come out the Friday before and mow it early. Of course he did not show up to cut the bank so we shrugged it off and thought they were too busy.
We decided to mow the front yard ourselves because it would be too long if we waited for them to cut it on Wednesday. They showed up on Monday to mow the grass. I asked why so early we were expecting you on Wednesday. The son, Nick, said the day of the week doesn't matter and shrugged his shoulders. I told him we had to mow it because we expected them on the previous Friday but no one came out. Nick wondered why it had been mowed and I said we had to do something the grass was getting too long.
We agreed they would come out on the agreed to day in the future. Due to the rain the grass was growing faster than anticipated so my husband called to see if they could come a day early, Tuesday, and mow the grass. Reluctantly the father said he would be here after 7 on Tuesday. He did show up after 7 PM by himself. So feeling sorry for him because he looked so tired we told him he didn't have to weed eat and I swept the grass off the driveway and sidewalk. He stated his son was out with his friends and he was by himself.
They both showed up on the next scheduled day very early, around 9 :15, which is a bad time to cut my grass since we have a steep bank to cut which is difficult to do when the grass is still wet from the dew. Nevertheless, they proceeded to mow the lawn and the large mower began to slip on the bank leaving large skid marks in several areas. The son did the trimming with a weedeater and did a very poor job. He only went in certain areas and did not trim where the large mower missed. There were high/low areas in the front lawn which were very noticeable. The grass on the left side of my house did not look like it had been mowed at all, but I know he took the mower there due to the skid marks left in the grass.
The one thing that really was the straw that broke the camel's back was when I found my emerging Hostas were chewed up by the weedeater. Once a Hosta leaf is damaged you have to cut it off and let new growth take over. I could over look one plant but he cut down 3 of the Hosta plants. I am assuming a person claiming to be a landscaper should know what a Hosta looks like.
My husband called and told the lady who answered the phone at the Rising Sun Landscaping company to tell them never to come back because of the lousy job they did mowing the lawn. She never inquired what was done in particular and no one to this date has come to the door to discuss why were cancelling the service. Someone did leave the last bill for the last mow job on my mailbox this morning.
Wonder what the replacement cost for a Hosta plant is?
