I will not be going back there. The headlight itself was cheap but  the installation was expensive. They also had a problem with the break light on my car. It was reading that breaks were a problem. They had no idea what kind of break fluid to put in. They need more knowledgeable technicians. They do have convenient hours, which is important to me. They were open Sunday morning while other places are closed.

Dave had me leave the car while the diagnostics were read, and told me that I could go to lunch and they would call me as soon as they had a solution. So I walked across the street and had lunch. After an hour and a half, they still had not called. When I called them to inquire, I was put on hold while they tried to locate the actual mechanic.  I was on hold for over 15 minutes before I hung up and called back. That time, it took several minutes before someone who knew about the problem (not Dave, and not the mechanic) came on the line and told me that because of the nature of the diagnostic code I would have to leave my car overnight, that the problem was more than they had originally expected. I walked back over to collect my things, and asked to speak to the mechanic. I was told that he was on the Snap-On Tools truck, probably shopping. So, I waited. And waited. When he finally got off the truck, he then decided to speak to me. I mean, is my time worth nothing? The mechanic explained that since Pep Boys does not perform engine mechanics at that level, that the best they could do would be to replace the entire engine with either a new one or a rebuilt one. Their cost estimate would range from anywhere from $4K to $6K, depending on the cost of the replacement engine. However, they could look further into the problem to see if there was any visible damage. Since Pep Boys does not offer ride services, I caught a taxi home.
    The next day, I called them toward the end of the day, because no one had bothered to call me first. Dave told me that after removing the valve cover, they had found the loose rocker arm and lifter. He said that although those parts still looked good (he had taken several pictures of them with his phone and sent them to me) he couldn't guarantee that the engine wasn't damaged any further with me driving on the problem.  This part, I understood. The next day, I called them to tell them that a tow truck would be arriving, and for them to leave the valve cover, the rocker arm and the lifter in the bed of the truck while it was in transit. I gave them my payment method over the phone. 
    My truck was towed to another mechanic shop. There, he found all the parts lying loosely in the engine compartment, and the screws that fastened the valve cover on were missing. So, Pep Boys did not place the parts in the bed like I had asked. That's when I reexamined their bill. They had charged me the diagnostic fee, and labor for removing the valve cover. But then, they also charged me for putting the valve cover back on, when they had not.
    So, the moral of this story is:  If you need a new battery, or a diagnostic code read, or windshield wipers done, Pep Boys is the place to go.  Engine work?  Don't bother.

Recently, I needed a battery for my Prius. My usual service location would not assist me. Pep Boys had the 12v battery in stock, at a great price and installed it quickly. Since then we have had oil changes and tire rotations and a new alternator there. The staff has been great, friendly and very helpful. Today, I had 2 tires, front brakes and alignment. The price was better than my other center and the additional on-line coupons helped even more. I worked with Dave and Chris. They were both extremely helpful in making sure I got exactly what I needed at a great price and as quickly as possible. Plus, the rewards card has already gotten me free service.

Usually, I go there without an appointment and it is beneficial, so that's why I keep going back to them. The staff is good and pleasant. They are informative. The price depends on what oil they put.
