The main worker on the job was ok, other than that the entire experience was a nightmare. Very unprofessional and unsanitary...the assistant to the main worker was on the clock and I saw him out the window standing around while on the clock, not helping and picking his nose. Seriously. An estimate was given over the phone, which I of course know is only an estimate. Well they reached this “estimate” when only about 1/4 of the job was done. I called to check in with the main office and was told “we will make it right.” Still tried to charge us a 40% increase when all was said and done. An estimate is just that, an estimate, so we were prepared for a little wiggle room, but 40% higher? Come on. And then they claimed they don’t give estimates over the phone. Well, I didn’t just dream that up, that is what I was told. There were marks and nicks made to our brand new drywall and some of our bead board panels were cracked. They offered to come back and fix their mistakes but we would not let anyone from this company back in our home.

worst company we have ever done business with
Response from Mr Handyman of Louisville Northeast
"Matt worked at her home on 5 different days. For whatever reason, our customer denied that Matt was at he home on the last day (we have GPS on our vans) and even though we sent her proof, she refused to pay. In Ky we have 6 months to place a lien (which I place approximately [Member Information Removed] a year out of 750 stops) & found out the hard way that Indiana only gives you 3 months. I can assure you that Matt has worked for me over 8 years and can't remember the last negative on the quality of his work. Gene"

He could not speak English. He had no idea of what was supposed to be done. He built a plywood wall in 17 different pieces. The banister was not properly installed. I emailed pictures of what this man did. It was awful. We had to hire another handyman to come out and do it right. The guy is a scam artist. Do your research on him.
Response from Mr Handyman of Louisville Northeast
"Ali has lived in US for 7 years and his English is still in progress. Customer decided on plywood. Husband went to Lowe's paid for materials. Gave Ali $100 tip at end of day. Customer decided they should have selected drywall instead of plywood. Customer drove to Lowe's and made the wrong choice on materials and blamed on Ali. Job was not finished. Husband wanted to save money by finishing. After 12 years and 6000 customer s. This customer tops the list. Why give $100 tip at end of day if you are unhappy. Why pay for plywood if you wanted drywall. This is exactly why mechanics lien help us."

After $4000 worth of work and $500 worth of supplies. Work was still not done. Weeks after we received a bilk for over $2000. After 2 months they finally took it down to $500 but this was after now placing a lean on our home. Plus forging our signatures on bills we never agreed to. They would never address our issues with the repairs on the home either. Charged for time they were not here
Response from Mr Handyman of Louisville Northeast
"Let me get the dollar amount correct. Mrs. [Member Name Removed] has paid Mr. Handyman $3578 and this includes $12 in materials. She has paid for the majority of the supplies and none of the $500 in materials was paid to Mr. Handyman. We did credit in full $534. We had one last day of work which we have reduced from $821 down to less than $418. Mrs. [Member Name Removed] feels that we are charging for a day she thinks we did not work. On an email dated 10/19/2016 Mrs. [Member Name Removed] stated that she wanted Matt to work one more day and after that day of work, she and her husband would "move in another direction". In that same email she states that "Matt has been doing very good work and is a pleasure to deal with". Mrs. [Member Name Removed] feels that we lied to her about being at her home on 10/26/16 (which was the last day approved by Mrs [Member Name Removed]. It is standard practice for us to take before and after photos which we did. Our last bill includes the time of the first photo & the time of the last photo taken on that date. Even though we have more time, we did not charge any more than the time on the photos. Mrs. [Member Name Removed] feels that we altered the time on the photos. Matt went over to AT&T and had them confirm the accuracy of the date and time these photos were taken. Mrs [Member Name Removed] does not believe us. She basically wants us to work at her home for free. We don't work for free nor does anyone else. We make our living by solving people's problems. Mr. Handyman charges by the hour because we never know how long it will take to complete a job. My speculation is that Mrs. [Member Name Removed] felt that someone else could do it for less."

I called handyman to fix a leak. Water was getting into my microwave through the vent. They were unable to fix it but charged me around $200 anyway for the attempt. Before the work was started, they said if it wasn't fixed they'd come back out. After getting paid, they said their work was not guaranteed. They compared themselves to doctors who get paid regardless of whether or not they solve the issue. They said they would come back and look but never showed. Later, I diagnosed the problem myself and had a contractor come out and repair the issue. While it is true they charge similar to doctor's rates, the similarities end there. Understand that if you hire Mr Handyman, you are hiring unskilled labor to work by the hour. If you know exactly what needs to be done and you need someone to shovel a ditch for me instance, they would probably do ok but expect to pay a lot for a ditch digger. #mrhandyman is not so handy.
Response from Mr Handyman of Louisville Northeast
"We do guarantee our work. We don't guarantee how water is getting into a home. There is a difference in expectations from the customer. The bill was $140 and not $200. FYI A lot of our calls come from water leaks. Water penetration needs to be repaired before anything on the inside of the house is repaired. Sometimes we are asked to caulk around outside vents. This may or may not solve the leaking problem. Water penetration may start 20' away and make it's way over to the damaged area. Home Warranty companies hire us to do drywall repair all the time. However they hire roofing companies to repair the roofs and then we come in and repair the drywall. Thanks for listening. Gene Johnson"

They overcharged on their poor work.
Response from Mr Handyman of Louisville Northeast
"I'm not sure what Poor work [Member Name Removed] is referring to. Matt has never been accused of poor workmanship. The biggest complaint we hear is that the job took longer than expected and the cost is too high. That complaint is universal for service companies and unfortunate. Unfortunately we never do the same job twice, so every job is unique and takes a different amount of time."

Matt arrived promptly and went right to work. The adjustment required removing trim and securing the upper sill. Then he was able to adjust the hinges to improve sealing. This was done in slightly less than an hour.

Matt showed up with a huge binder with all the projects/pictures he has done to impress me and buy my trust. Then I told him I wanted to have gutter guard installed which is less than 65 feet. And I asked him when can he get it done. He said I don't know. I ended up paying around $4000 dollars for his 5 days of work which he dragged and dragged to extend his working days. Other than the gutter, He did patch 2 small holes on the bedroom wall and replaced part of the 12"x12" the ceiling wall which he claimed mold there is poisonous for my cat. He has also repaired one small soffit area and repaired one small area of rotten board on the back of my house. Installed 2 down spouts. That is it. It took him 5 days to complete the jobs. When I complained to Gene, he immediately agreed to take off the fifth day's work. I suspected that this kind of complaint must have happened before. Matt did not only cheat on his daily service recording repetitive tasks or tasks not done, but also dragged his time deliberately. For example it can take him 30 min to load up his truck to leave. I told him there were two days I had to leave at 5. Of course he did not wrap up his work before five. Instead he had me sign the empty dally service record and filled out the details later. And when I asked him to start working on the back of the of house, he pretended he had bad hearings that he didn't hear me, hear and continued dragging on the front of the house work. It is partly my fault I was too naive and trusting. I have even taken him out for lunch one day and that was the only day he didn't charge me for his lunch time. It was freezing that week and I stayed inside. I was extremely nice to him I provided a pot of hot tea and hand warmer every day. My conclusion is he had his mind set to try to charge me five days work when he started. I asked him every day when is he going to finish the job his answer is always "I DON'T KNOW" Maybe Matt is just one BAD apple out of Gene's crew but it surely is the most awful experience I had ever had. What is the worst is I think he has been doing this to old trusting ladies like me for a while. P.S. I have all the daily service record and pictures to back up my story. I paid around $3200 for 65 feet of gutter guards installed ( he didn't even clean out the leaves first, put nails to my shingles and put a different kind of guard on the back of my house, which was probably his leftover to charge me more materials. They became curvy and out of place this year) P. S. Recently I had another handyman to estimate my exterior painting he told us the gutter guard wasn't properly installed and the shingles were damaged by Matt and he will replace them with brand new and better gutter guard for $420 total. P..S. Even though Gene the boss did compensate me one day's work, but he refused to compensate more. He pretend he won't understand the daily work sheet Matt created and cheated. He has no way of knowing exactly what Matt. Of course he will side with Matt because Matt is his money making machine. P. S. Matt has also called me saying I shamed him and etc...

"Today is 3/15/17 and I'm just now responding to Mrs. [Member Name Removed]'s comments. Yes I do remember Mrs. [Member Name Removed] and as I recall, it boiled down to Mr. [Member Name Removed] not happy with Mrs. [Member Name Removed]. Mr. [Member Name Removed] felt that a "fair" price was 3 days of work and Matt had worked there 5 days. I agreed to credit out the longer of 2 days. Mr. [Member Name Removed] wanted 2 days and a compromise was 1 day."

We contacted Mr. Handyman to have several projects completed in our home. A day or so later, we received a call from Matt Pliska, technician, to discuss the projects. Initially we were going to pay him $79 for the first hour to walk through the house, diagnose and give us an idea of how many hours it would take to complete the projects so we had some kind of budget. On 8/3/2015, Matt called and said he was in the area, that although not the norm, he would like to stop by and walk through to see what all we needed done and that he would not charge us for the walk through. Ok. Great! He walked through the house, made notes and said he would like to meet at Lowe's the next morning to pick up materials. Originally we had only scheduled a half day of work. We wanted to just see what all could be completed in a half day.
As we were walking around showing Matt all the issues, he realized how we had been taken advantage of by so many other companies with so much work still left undone after thousands of dollars had been spent. After meeting with Matt, I didn't push back when he wanted to be here the entire day on 8/4/2015.
We met at Lowes and he had pretty much all the materials to repair every issue we had discussed, so I am thinking, wow, a lot is going to happen today. Perfect!
Once we returned to my home, he began setting up. Set up took a really long time and you pay for their time whether it's shopping at Lowes or setting up to work. Which is fine, they tell you that upfront. I just wasn't expecting to pay for an hour service fee, just for him to set up for work.
The first thing he worked on was conditioning the piece of veneer for our cabinets. Afterwards, he set up to begin repairing drywall. He explained to us that he uses a 3 step application process for the mud.  We paid for a lot of explanation of everything. I really just wanted to say, I don't care how you do it, just do it.
My full time job is taking care of my disabled father-n-law, so while Matt was working all day, my focus was on him. I didn't watch over Matt because I trusted he was steadily working. As we were approaching the end of the day, he mentioned he needed to go ahead and leave because it was his son's birthday. So of course. We helped him pack up and take his equipment to the van. I hurried this process along, didn't want to pay another full hour for him putting up his equipment.
Before he left, I did a walk through. He explained that none of the drywall had been completed, only the first two steps, even though he was using fast set drywall compound. I didn't quite understand why, but after seeing what we had paid, based upon the work done, I was just ready for him to leave. Once again, we had spend a lot of money without much of a result.
After he left, I began inspecting the areas that were worked on. I can now see why he uses his 3 step method. It takes much much longer, therefore you pay a lot more. He either didn't know how to mix the drywall compound or he turned it into a plaster paste like substance on purpose so that he could spend 2 hours sanding something that took 45 minutes to set. The mudding was all lumpy and rough. A sign it was not mixed well. It also covered the entire area, not just the tape joints. I decided to read the instructions on the bag. The instructions on the bag are for mixing the entire bag a once, so you have to do a calculation in order to mix small amounts. I went to the manufacturers website to see if there was a chart for mix per water. There wasn't, but in the comments section, several other professionals mentioned the best ratio.
I had been doing the drywall myself, until we decided to have a professional come in to finish it all faster. So, I decided to sand down and even out Matt's second coat in the guest bath. I probably took off a 1/4 inch of excess drywall compound. Plus, the entire area had been covered with it, instead of just the joints, which made the area very uneven. So, I mixed my own compound which resulted in a nice smooth product. It went on perfectly and dried in about 45 min as the product suggests. So, I am now even more confused as to how Matt ended up doing the job that he did with the same compound.
I wrote to the company describing my experience and never received any phone call or feedback, yet I know they received it, because they passed on the info in my email to Matt, who then sent me a text message regarding my comments. Completely unprofessional.
I wrote to the company again regarding the text message, no response.
When you look at the actual invoice for labor performed, it details every item we had on our list of of repairs, as if they were all completed. So, what Matt turned into his company looks like he did a ton of work for the day, when in fact all he did was place a total of about a 3/4 sheet of wall board and apply 2 coats of mudd plus conditioning the piece of veneer, for $788.
To this day, we are still trying to level out the wall in the guest bathroom for painting and we have not even begun to work on the other areas Matt worked on. Once we save some more money, hopefully we can have an actual professional to come out and repair the job that Matt did and complete the work so that we have smooth walls ready to paint.

Response from Mr Handyman of Louisville Northeast
"Matt does a lot of drywall. Not very many complaints on the quality of his work. Sometimes the customer feels that it should go faster. Actually all the time the customer feels it should go faster."

We were not too happy with it due to the estimate being way off and  it taking longer than expected.
Response from Mr Handyman of Louisville Northeast
"Cost from Mr. Handyman was $8641 not $10,000. It appears that [Member Name Removed] was unhappy with the cost and I can't blame her. $8641 is a lot of money to spend. Unfortunately every thing is too expensive in this day and age. She did give us an A for quality and I appreciate the A. Seldom do I feel that what I am paying for is worth the money. That pretty much includes almost everything I write a check for. Gene Johnson"

We called Mr Handyman to give us an estimate for wall and baluster repairs to our home. We were pleased with Edd's not-to-exceed quote and made arrangements for the work to commence. Edd arrived this morning on time and (wow!) in a Mr.Handyman van, wearing a Mr. Handyman shirt and hat. He was very pleasant and diligent. He did a fantastic job and I only wish he did wallpaper (yes... I asked). We would definitely recommend them - highly professional and considerate, not to mention quality work. Best of all, our actual cost was over $200 less than the not-to-exceed estimate!

It went great. He conferred with me the whole way, explaining what needed to be done and why. Also gave me estimates on other work I might want done in the future and how to prepare , to save money, before I called them.

The first day he was supposed to come, his current job ran over and he saw he wasn't going to get to me, so he called. Did I want them to send someone else or he would come the next morning. The next morning they sent someone else who was there immediately at my request. Did an excellent job. Was very professional.

My wife's co- worker had a break-in at her house. Someone broke a basement window to gain entry. The homeowner was very shaken to have this happen. She called three other companies to repair the window and install security bars on the basement windows. None of the three ever showed up or called her back. I suggested Gene Johnson's company, Mr. Handyman, and within the same day that she called him, the window was repaired. She was very pleased with the work and the price. She arranged for him to install the security bars also. She would definitely use his services again.

The hooks installed on the front porch are wonderful, but everything else that was done was never finished.  I paid over $500 to have drywall compound slapped onto the area in the living room that was affected by water damage, and in the kitchen where the rippled drywall tape was removed and retaped.  The company never came back to sand either area. The kitchen was a disaster - the drywall compound was not applied evenly or in a clean staight line where the walls meet.  I was told that this could be fixed by paying them more money to sand the corners into a straight even line. We felt that we were seriously overcharged for the shoddy work that was done, and decided we did not want to push to have them back to do anything else.
Response from Mr Handyman of Louisville Northeast
"This job was April of 2011 and Member is responding almost 2 years later, so it is somewhat vague as to our side of the story. I pulled our work orders to review time spent and any notes. I can't see where member called and voiced her complaints so I'm at a loss here. I can say that we do a lot of drywall work. Drywall needs time to dry before you can apply new coats. From the description of the work performed (and Mark's time) there was a lot of drywall. Every drywall job is different. No 2 are the same. Since we charge for our time, a lot of the time, (when we get to the last coat and the last sanding) the customer will choose to finish it themselves. Yes, we will certainly come back to finish, but we do charge for our time to come back. That is probably what happened in Member's case. There is no way that we would not go back to finish unless the customer said that they would finish up. That happens a lot, because the customer wants to save the money by doing the work/labor themselves. We have completed the hardest part. I'm sorry that Member was unhappy."
