We took our baby girl here because our vet recommended them, since they were close. Our baby was having trouble breathing. She was healthy and playful that same day. Her brother is 16 years old, they are spoiled and well taken care of. These people are so consumed with getting your money every 5 minutes, they are HORRIBLE! These idiots told us our baby needed to stay overnight in the oxygen cage, because she was doing better! We have never left our babies for 1 night, in all of their years alive. Well that was BS these people called me the next morning, and said she had died. This lady had the nerve to say do you want us to do CPR!! *** why would you call to ask me that instead of just saving my baby! I know in my heart they killed her, they were unprofessional and didn't care one way or the other. DO NOT TAKE ANY PET TO THESE PEOPLE, YOU WILL END UP REGRETTING IT! I don't know how to even live, I would give anything to go back to that night and take her home instead of trusting these greedy liars!

I was referred from Lexington to this clinic because time was time was of the essence for my dog to have surgery to be able to walk again. 1st emergency should be removed from the title of this “clinic”. We were there over an hour and not seen. Front desk called for triage multiple times with no response. We were told they were busy. So we sat without any evaluation until we got a veterinarian on the phone. Drove back to Versailles and when we arrived the vet tech already had medication orders. I find no evaluation at 15 minutes suspended the word emergency from this “clinic”. I also will contact the hospital in Lexington about referring to this facility.

BEWARE! They killed my dog. I took my 9 year old Australian Shepherd to see Dr. Catherine Daley in internal medicine after being referred by my vet for breathing problems. We agreed on a CT scan, rhinoscopy, and potentially a biopsy if she found suspicious lesions in his nasal passages. She did the scope, there were irritated areas, but she was pretty certain it was rhinitis and no cancer was present. She continued with the biopsies anyway. When my dog was waking up in recovery the spots that she biopsied began to bleed again. They put him back under, his heart stopped and they were unable to get him back. The biopsies later confirmed no cancer. I think that they overdosed him on propofol. They did not offer an autopsy and we were too shocked/upset to think about it until the next day when it was too late. I believe she only did the biopsy to increase our vet bill as it requires an overnight stay, additional lab work, etc. She has no bed side manner and we were not allowed access to our dog's chart or her notes - it took several weeks to get the full picture of what happened. Go to Blue Pearl I wish I had.

These people are HORRIBLE!!! I took my dog in a collapsed emergency state, spent an enormous amount of money to be told the next day to euthanize my dog because there was nothing they could do. Fair enough,,,but I wanted to take her home and spend our last time together and thank god I did because she is now totally normal. She may collapse again,,,but if I had listened to these people, she would be dead now. When I called back to speak with the vet,,,BTW, you never get the same person twice, so you are mostly dealing with people who don't care about you or your pet because the chances are they will never see you again,,,but I can assure you, they do care about sucking money out of your bank account the way vampires suck blood.

I cannot say enough about Metro and don’t know what I would do without them! I just received a text from the vet’s wife checking on my Mellie - that’s how great they are. They are responsive, don’t cut corners, get down to the cause, and my high anxiety schnauzers love them and actually feel at home there now. I will not go anywhere else for emergencies. Worth every single penny!

We had asked the vet to get approval from my wife or myself before anything was done for the dog. This request was not followed. Procedures were duplicated which was an added expense. We felt like the vet tried to push services on us that weren't necessary at the time. When we talked with the vet on duty at the time we visited, they acted like they had no idea what was being done for the dog and that it would be best to call/come back when the vet who was treating the dog was there. Dog did much better when we took him home and took him off some of the medicines that were causing some bad side effects.

It went very well. The surgeon did a spectacular job and our cat healed nicely and is back to her old self. The only complaint I have is about follow up work. At the two month mark, we took our cat back in for the final checkup after surgery. They sedated her and took xrays. She was declared healed and sent home. Subsequently, we received a bill for the xrays. When I called and stated that I thought it was included as standard follow-up to surgery, I was told that, no, there are charges for the xrays and that it is explained on the original discharge papers. I dug the papers out of my file and, sure enough, in the middle of a paragraph it does say that there will be a charge for xrays. It needs to be more prominent. And it needs to be discussed what is and is not included in the surgery fee.

This was one of the worst evenings of my life, but I have nothing but positive comments concerning Metropolitan. They were extremely kind, caring, efficient, and compassionate. They did not rush us at all and were very empathetic to our feelings and needs. They handled the entire process in a totally exemplary way. I don't know of anything additionally that they could have done to have made the situation more bearable.

I was very pleased with my experience with Jason Clark. He performed the exam in front of me (no taking the dog in the back and doing some mysterious exam) and explained everything he was doing in great detail. He was very good with my dog and treated her well. He was patient with her and overall friendly and warm. He explained her eye condition in detail (and even drew pictures on a white board) and made sure that I fully understood everything. He explained what treatment options were available and recommended the treatment that he thought would work best and be most cost effective. I knew going in that it was going to expensive- its a specialist. But I felt like the money was well worth it. I left feeling confident that my dog got the best treatment available. In subsequent visits the cost for the visit was much cheaper (around 60 or 70 I think). I have been to some vets who clearly recommend unnecessary treatments and are clearly just there to make money (Banfield cough cough), but this was not the case with Dr. Clark.
If your dog is having any eye issues I really really recommend Dr. Clark.

The specialist, I mean, I don't have a post relationship with them and I don't know them that well but I was pleased with their specialist services. Metropolitan Veterinary Specialists is a 24/7 emergency room for pets and they are very well equipped and the specialistand hellip;did you know that there is such a thing as Veterinary Neurologist? I didn't know that, but they have them and soand hellip;it's awesome. I was pleased with their services, like I said, I took them there a couple of times and the problem has been cleared up. They are open 24/7 and it's a good place to go if you have an emergency. You can go there and I was pleased with their services.

We knew when we brought the dog in that he would very likely not be coming home with us. He was very old and very sick. The doctor was very helpful in giving us the information we needed to make the decision. However one thing that I dislike about the place is the fact that they take your animal away from you when you arrive. This is not the first time I have had this happen at the place. It is one of the main reasons I would consider another emergency clinic next time. My animal is not well, I obviously feel its en emergency or I would not be here. I do not like the fact that you stress the animal even more by removing him to an unknown place surrounded by unknown people who are poking and prodding at him/her. The examination should be done in the room with the owners present and able to see exactly what was done to the pet. Naturally this would not the case when surgery is needed or something like that but ion the majority of the cases it can be done in the room with the owners there.

Metropolitan saved my puppies life after a spay surgery went bad. They were incredibly attentive and realized that this wasnt just a dog but a member of my family. The surgeon was constantly in contact with me and continued to call to follow up even after I took my puppy home. Drs Campbell, Applewhite and Lindquest truly cared for my pet as if she were their own. The staff was continuously professional and responsive to my concerns. I wouldnt trust my pet to any other ER room. They were expensive but you get what you pay for.

My cat recovered and has done well after an extended treatment with various medications. These vets are not cheap but they are worth every penny they charge. If you're looking for discount veterinary care this is not the place for you. But if you value your pets as family and want only the best care, then then this is the only place you wil take them.

First, let me say that the surgeon at MVS saved our cat's life. He was able to step in when our cat developed complications beyond the range of those treated by our usual vet. The surgeon told us he was confident he could perform successful surgery, and, as far as we can tell after two weeks, he did. And for saving our cat, whom we love like a child, we are extremely grateful.
However, we believe that since these surgeons are the only people in the area who can perform this procedure, the office acts like the monopoly they are. I am well aware that these surgeons are specialists with additional training and that they are performing complicated surgeries. For that I am willing to pay. However, all the peripheral charges seem exorbitant. For example, our cat was in their care for 24 hours, approximately noon one day to noon the next. I was charged for two days of hospitalization. Our regular vet charged $15 for a bag of IV fluids following surgery and MVS charged $35. Our vet charged $49.50 for the pre-surgery bloodwork and MVS charged $98. We went today to have the cat's stitches removed and were charged $30. We were told the charge was for the anesthetic. However, I had questioned whether the cat needed to be anesthetized to remove the stitches since our vet had had no trouble removing the previous set of stitches from the same area while I held the cat. The surgeon basically insisted that the cat be anesthetized. Our vet didn't charge an additional amount to remove the stitches and saw no need to anesthetize the cat.
When I went to MVS to pick up the cat the day after his surgery, I was told for the first time that the cat needed to live in a large dog crate or the equivalent for the next two weeks. My husband and I had to go into emergency mode to construct something equivalent to a dog crate in the 2-3 hours after returning home. We would have very much appreciated having been warned about needing the dog crate when we left the cat for surgery on the previous day.
I marked above that I would not go back to MVS. This is not exactly true. If they are, in fact, the only surgeons within a 100-150 mile radius who can perform this work, I would, reluctantly, go back. However, if I could find another group of veterinary specialist surgeons in Lexington, Cincinnati, or Indianapolis that was equally skilled, I would drive the extra distance to avoid this office. I basically feel that my cat was being held for ransom -- I was forced to pay whatever they chose to charge in order to save his life.

The tear occurred on a Wednesday, our vet referred us to Metropolitan on Friday, and we met with Dr. Applewhite on Monday. He examined our dog, provided options, and explained the surgery process from start to finish. He was very supportive and made sure we were considering every angle. Our biggest concern was that our dog needed to stay off his leg for two weeks and the entire recovery could take up to six months. Our dog is very active and we were worried we couldn't keep him contained long enough to heal. We decided to pay an extra $70 a day to leave him there to make sure he had constant care and supervision for at least the first week after surgery. They were very upfront about the costs. The final cost ended up being $2000 over their initial estimate, but only $500 more than what we ourselves had expected. Of course, we added 10 days of boarding and some other expenses came up as well. We've already had one follow up visit that was free and we have another coming up. While our dog was boarded there, we called every day to check on him. Dr. Applewhite took time to talk to us whenever we called or visited. Everyone has been so friendly, professional, and supportive through the entire process. It isn't cheap, but our dog is doing great and we would definitely use them for any future surgeries or emergencies.

Although there were ups and downs in his treatment course, the staff and Dr. Campbell were beyond wonderful. Please trust them with your animals. I have been at this for over 30 years and dealt with many vets. These are the best of the best.
