Mr. Jim Alvey (James Alvey Construction) signed a contract for a remodeling job of our existing home. The job could not have gone worse. We paid him over the contracted price for a job that was 50% completed. We had to pay others thousands of dollars ($125,000.00 to be exact) to clean up his mess and pay the sub-contractors that he did not pay. Not only did we have incomplete work but major damages to the work he did complete. He placed a lien on our house and proceeded to sue us. We won a judgement (which he has not paid) after a costly 5 day trial and have found others he has done the exact same thing to which seems to be his business model. PLEASE BEWARE!!!!!!!

Overall the job turned out OK.  But Jim promises quite a bit and can't deliver.  His staff (son and others) is very skilled.  But Jim is not reliable or trustworthy.  He always finds a reason to upcharge you.  The overall job turned out OK - stone fireplace, detailed moulding on windows, baseboards, cabinetry.  But that is because his son and other staff are very good.  When we needed to finish it off with the painting of walls and moulding he brought in some other family members and they did an awful job.  And he charged us quite a bit for this amateur result.
