After they repaired it, I took it home and found it was not fixed. I took it back to them and when I got it back, it was totally locked up. I found this out after I got home. Both times they released the clock to me when it was not fixed. I will not go back to them again.

.I was actually reassured by the shop -- it's on the second floor in an area of Louisville known as 'colorful', which means that the restaurants have dishes with ingredients usually found in livestock feed. The shop itself is a throwback to the Fifties (which is about -- I'm guessing -- the last time it was cleaned or dusted); tools, parts, and clocks in profusion and disarray, fly-speckled ads for items long sold or out of production, and clam-colored sunlight tinted by the dusty windows. It's the kind of shop where, despite appearances, quality work is usually done. Because, after all, such shops don't usually last if they DON'T.
However, to my dismay, after retrieving my clocks, I wound them to test them. The older, the one hundred plus year old mantle clock of my parents', ran for exactly two windings, and stopped dead. And, coincidentally probably, my wall clock lasted five windings, and stopped as well.
I dropped off both clocks, and explained what had happened. My story was given a reception that was just on the edge of outright rudeness, and was obviously thought to be somewhat afield of the truth. A disgruntled and grunted and quot;We'll look into itand quot; was the extent of communications, until I received a telephone call that could only be described as terse and brittle. It informed me that my clocks were ready, and that it had been three months, and to come and get them. I replied that I had been waiting for a call from THEM, but was abruptly told that ALL customers are to call the shop two weeks after drop-off to check on progress. Rather than prolong a conversation with little hope of positive aspects, I replied that I would be in later that day. The 'phone on the other end was slammed down.
I arrived to pick up the clocks, and was told that and quot;....nothing was wrong with 'em, so they didn't do anything to 'em.and quot; I was (and am still) amazed. and quot;Then what happened to them? Why did they stop running after they were supposedly cleaned and repaired?and quot;
and quot;How should I know? They ran all right for me!and quot;
I was then informed that the charge was forty-five dollars. Each.
and quot;What? You didn't do anything, and you want NINETY DOLLARS? For WHAT?and quot;
and quot;For you leaving them here for three months.and quot;
I'll tell you how I reacted in a moment, but first I want to relate something that happened when I got the clocks home (and before I made arrangements for them to be examined by a responsible horologist). I put the wall clock in its usual place, and opened the front to wind it -- and a stinking miasma of stale cigarette smoke wafted out. Which might explain some of the problems.
I might also mention that the next day I took both clocks to an expert horologist (in another, larger city) with more than thirty-five years experience, and who works on nothing except for mechanical clock movements. I explained exactly what had happened, and he said, and quot;Well, let's take a look!and quot; He proceeded to take the clock faces off, and pointed out that the mechanisms still had dirt and old oil on them, and the screws still had dirt in the screw heads, which meant that they had never been disassembled. He started the works on the century old clock, and pointed out that the ends of the shafts oscillated unsteadily in the mounting holes, showing that they hadn't been replaced for years. and quot;At mostand quot;, he said. and quot;The last guy put a few drops of oil in the works.and quot;
I had suspected this when I had picked up the clocks from Hunter, but it was nice to have it confirmed by a professional. It was because of this that when Hunter said, unsmilingly, and quot;Ninety dollarsand quot;, I considered my options, and gave him one hundred dollars, and told him to keep the change. Here, at the twilight of his career, I hope he remembers the time when he was efficient and capable, and that he'll now remember being tipped for being slovenly, discourteous, and incompetent.

The first time, I called and left a message and no one returned my call. I called a week later and the phone was answered and they scheduled an appointment for that same week. The owner and an assistant arrived on time and set up my clock which had been taken apart for a move. They were very professional and quickly got it running.

I have an antique mantle clock that quit working 14 years ago. I was told at the time that it couldn't be fixed. I have held onto it all these years because it is a very pretty clock. Once I got on Angie's List I looked for clock repair and found Hunter's. I took my clock to them, told them what I had been told and left it with them. Two weeks later they called and said it was fixed! The gears were stripped and since the parts are no longer available they made the gears, and now my clock is working perfectly!!! I am thrilled to have my clock back! Would recommend Hunter's to anyone!

The work was excellent and done in a very acceptable time frame.
Please be aware the store is located where there is limited street parking.so I suggest gettig there shortly after they open and on a week day in order to find a parking space close to the shop.
The shop is located on the second floor and is not very accessable to the mobility callenged as they railings are only on one side of the stairwell. HOWEVER, if you cal them on your cell phone when you arrive at their location, someone will come down to your car to take your clock from you. This was an A+ accomodation for me.!
The work was down in the time promised, my clock is working perfectly and I am now again enjoying a treasured possession.
I reccomend this company to anyone who needs repair of a wall clock and is able to take the clock to their store. They do make housecalls, but the surcharge to do this is rather costly.

Work took about three weeks on two of the clocks and one is still there because it is a difficult clock to work on.
