After they repaired it, I took it home and found it was not fixed. I took it back to them and when I got it back, it was totally locked up. I found this out after I got home. Both times they released the clock to me when it was not fixed. I will not go back to them again.
Description of Work: I took my wall clock in for them and clean it and hopefully repair it.

Description of Work: Mr. Hunter worked on three antique mantel clocks and a vintage handmade grandfather's clock. We found his prices to be reasonable ($145.00 per mantel clock) and his repair turnaround (two weeks) to be fair. Although I was surprised that he removed the clock from the grandfather's clock casing and took it back to his shop, he did an EXCELLENT job restoring it working order! Too, $300.00 for having the grandfather's clock cleaned and repaired was very reasonable for this area, and including pickup and return delivery. We would recommend him to anyone!

Description of Work: Hunter cleaned and repaired our pendulum clock. I was very pleased with work, length of time, etc. My only reason for "B" vs. "A" was the cost. I thought $145 was a bit high 0- but then I don't have a good frame of reference for this type work.

.I was actually reassured by the shop -- it's on the second floor in an area of Louisville known as 'colorful', which means that the restaurants have dishes with ingredients usually found in livestock feed. The shop itself is a throwback to the Fifties (which is about -- I'm guessing -- the last time it was cleaned or dusted); tools, parts, and clocks in profusion and disarray, fly-speckled ads for items long sold or out of production, and clam-colored sunlight tinted by the dusty windows. It's the kind of shop where, despite appearances, quality work is usually done. Because, after all, such shops don't usually last if they DON'T. However, to my dismay, after retrieving my clocks, I wound them to test them. The older, the one hundred plus year old mantle clock of my parents', ran for exactly two windings, and stopped dead. And, coincidentally probably, my wall clock lasted five windings, and stopped as well. I dropped off both clocks, and explained what had happened. My story was given a reception that was just on the edge of outright rudeness, and was obviously thought to be somewhat afield of the truth. A disgruntled and grunted and quot; We'll look into itand quot; was the extent of communications, until I received a telephone call that could only be described as terse and brittle. It informed me that my clocks were ready, and that it had been three months, and to come and get them. I replied that I had been waiting for a call from THEM, but was abruptly told that ALL customers are to call the shop two weeks after drop-off to check on progress. Rather than prolong a conversation with little hope of positive aspects, I replied that I would be in later that day. The 'phone on the other end was slammed down. I arrived to pick up the clocks, and was told that and quot;....nothing was wrong with 'em, so they didn't do anything to 'em.and quot; I was (and am still) amazed. and quot; Then what happened to them? Why did they stop running after they were supposedly cleaned and repaired?and quot; and quot; How should I know? They ran all right for me!and quot; I was then informed that the charge was forty-five dollars. Each. and quot; What? You didn't do anything, and you want NINETY DOLLARS? For WHAT?and quot; and quot; For you leaving them here for three months.and quot; I'll tell you how I reacted in a moment, but first I want to relate something that happened when I got the clocks home (and before I made arrangements for them to be examined by a responsible horologist). I put the wall clock in its usual place, and opened the front to wind it -- and a stinking miasma of stale cigarette smoke wafted out. Which might explain some of the problems. I might also mention that the next day I took both clocks to an expert horologist (in another, larger city) with more than thirty-five years experience, and who works on nothing except for mechanical clock movements. I explained exactly what had happened, and he said, and quot;Well, let's take a look!and quot; He proceeded to take the clock faces off, and pointed out that the mechanisms still had dirt and old oil on them, and the screws still had dirt in the screw heads, which meant that they had never been disassembled. He started the works on the century old clock, and pointed out that the ends of the shafts oscillated unsteadily in the mounting holes, showing that they hadn't been replaced for years. and quot;At mostand quot;, he said. and quot; The last guy put a few drops of oil in the works.and quot; I had suspected this when I had picked up the clocks from Hunter, but it was nice to have it confirmed by a professional. It was because of this that when Hunter said, unsmilingly, and quot;Ninety dollarsand quot;, I considered my options, and gave him one hundred dollars, and told him to keep the change. Here, at the twilight of his career, I hope he remembers the time when he was efficient and capable, and that he'll now remember being tipped for being slovenly, discourteous, and incompetent.
Description of Work: I took in a mantle clock that belonged to my parents, which hadn't worked properly in thirty years. (I wanted to surprise them for Christmas). I had previously taken in a wind-up pendulum chime clock for cleaning and routine maintenance after owning it for twenty-five years. It was still working acceptably -- I just wanted a professional to look it over. That one, I had gotten it back about six months previously, and seemed to be running acceptably.

Called and talked to Hunter of HUNTER'S CLOCK SHOP on 2/18/14 for repair service on antique grandfather's clock (100+ years old) - needed house call. Said he was very busy but would put my name on his house call list. Didn't hear from him so called again on 2/25/14 - said he was still busy but reconfirmed my name was on his and quot;to do listand quot;. No word so called again on 3/24/14 - he's still too busy. Finally heard back from Hunter on 4/18/14 that he now had time to come to the house and look at the clock. It took seven weeks for him to even respond and it would have required another 3-4 weeks for repair in his shop so would have been about three months total to repair my clock. In the meantime I contacted another person who repairs antique clocks. He came to my home that week - determined clock needed more that just a cleaning so took my clock works into his shop repaired them and returned everything back to my home all within 3 weeks. Needless to say I told Hunter that I had already found someone who had come and my clock was already repaired and working fine. To wait seven weeks for a response I found not the best form of customer service, and when I did speak with him his attitude was not pleasant - that he was just very busy and would get to me when he could, but would never give me a time frame for his availability. I, however, was very satisfied with the person who did have time, responded quickly and spent a lot of time and care on my cherished antique. BTW the name of the person who did respond and did do a wonderful job was HUNTER'S CLOCK REPAIR on Vernon Ave., Louisville, KY.

Description of Work: I had an old Anniversary Clock that belonged to my mother that was broken. They have someone from out of town that comes in every two weeks and takes clocks for repair. I met him at the shop on a Saturday and he gave me the estimate. It was more than I expected but was the only one I found in the east end. I was given no instructions when I picked it up and it was not working but I finally followed instructions I had saved with the clock and realized I need to balance the clock for it to work. It is now running slow so I need to call them. Hopefully it just needs to be wound.

The first time, I called and left a message and no one returned my call. I called a week later and the phone was answered and they scheduled an appointment for that same week. The owner and an assistant arrived on time and set up my clock which had been taken apart for a move. They were very professional and quickly got it running.
Description of Work: They set up my grandfather clock after it was moved to a new house.

I have an antique mantle clock that quit working 14 years ago. I was told at the time that it couldn't be fixed. I have held onto it all these years because it is a very pretty clock. Once I got on Angie's List I looked for clock repair and found Hunter's. I took my clock to them, told them what I had been told and left it with them. Two weeks later they called and said it was fixed! The gears were stripped and since the parts are no longer available they made the gears, and now my clock is working perfectly!!! I am thrilled to have my clock back! Would recommend Hunter's to anyone!

The work was excellent and done in a very acceptable time frame. Please be aware the store is located where there is limited street parking.so I suggest gettig there shortly after they open and on a week day in order to find a parking space close to the shop. The shop is located on the second floor and is not very accessable to the mobility callenged as they railings are only on one side of the stairwell. HOWEVER, if you cal them on your cell phone when you arrive at their location, someone will come down to your car to take your clock from you. This was an A+ accomodation for me.! The work was down in the time promised, my clock is working perfectly and I am now again enjoying a treasured possession. I reccomend this company to anyone who needs repair of a wall clock and is able to take the clock to their store. They do make housecalls, but the surcharge to do this is rather costly.

Work took about three weeks on two of the clocks and one is still there because it is a difficult clock to work on.
Description of Work: Took three antique clocks in for repair. Work performed at a reasonable price. You just have to understand that you are not going to get a fast repair as they are VERY busy.
