"This customer contacted us because she had two problems. First her fireplace was not working and second she was getting cold air through her chase (chimney). I explained the the cold air was not because of the prefab fireplace but because they had not insulated the chase. I also explained the the prefab she had would not produce much heat. I gave this customer two option. We could remove the mantel, tearing out the tile as well as part of the wall and completely remove the prefab fireplace, insulate the chase and put in a new fireplace with logs. This option would run about $4,500. Her second option was to only tear out the inside of the prefab fireplace (leaving the outer shell) and put in a zero clearance vent free insert. We would fill the area between the insert and outer shell with insulation. Although this option only partly fixed the chase issue, it would dramatically reduce any cold air from entering the room and we would not have to tear out any tile, wall or mantel. Since the unit was vent free she would get lots of heat and with the blower on it would help push the heat around the house. This option would cost $2068.29 (I have no idea where she came up with $3,000). This customer decided to go with the second option (at half the price of the first option). We had no real issue with the install until we went to hook up the electrical to the unit. As soon as the blower came on, the customer's son came in and said the power went off in his room. This customer said that she had had issue before with the electrical in the family room and in her son's room as the electric was on one breaker. I told the customer she needed to get an electrician to look at the situation because the unit was working fine and it was at that point an electrical issue not a fireplace issue. I had not heard any more about the situation until I saw this review"
