Had him look at my crawl space in a home I just purchased in Old Louisville. The crawlspace was damp, needed to be cleaned out and sealed up. His quote was for full basement encapsulation as well as adding a simple drain system and new sump pump. He was very helpful as we walked through my crawlspace and explained he strategy and service.
I was disappointed in his quote process. It was simply an e mail with a cost number (approx $8500). Not a lot of detail regarding various cost components or line item break outs or scale ability options. I was looking to spend around 3-4k and never heard back from him when I had follow up questions and did not feel like they were willing to work with me on pricing.
I think they can do the job, just not sure they wanted this one.
The nature of the work done dictates that the results may not be completely evident immediately but I have every confidence that they will be attentive to any issue that may arise. It has honestly been a pleasure to work with them.
I feel very confident in recommending Crawlspace Doctors.
We received a very informative estimate regarding my specific needs, along with all of the photos, showing old venting materials, trash, damp spots on foundation, hanging wires, venting that was not even connected to floor vents! (apparently, I have been heating and cooling my crawlspace for years!) Having those loose and unconnected vents exposed us to the poor air quality, possible "biological growth" in the air and likely entrances for household pests. The photos also showed a poor job of installation of my new heat pump that was done by a friend of a friend. (thanks a lot, Dale!)
We were not able to have the work done right away, but scheduled it while I was in town this week, knowing it was a two to three day job.
Robert and his crew of two (new temp agency laborers) showed up early and described the scope of work for the day. This is hard, nasty, dirty work! They put in a long day with few breaks. I could hear nearly everything that was going on as if they were in the next room. I heard Robert talking to the new guys, and patiently teaching and explaining as they went along. Very professional, well mannered.
Aside from the smell being churned up and the sounds of work coming from under the house, I would never know they were here.
Day two got started a little late because apparently the temp guys decided that type of work was not for them and didn't show up. Robert explained the situation and said he would stay and work as long as he could, which was a long day.
Day three Robert showed up with a new crew of two, ready to work. The three of them, along with Matthew were able to finish on schedule and everything was cleaned up when I met with Matthew to discuss the job.
Matthew removed his shoes, and brought his lap top computer in the house. We reviewed the "before" photos. Then we were shown the "after" photos, with a detailed description of the work performed. He described the 20 year transferable warranty of their work and the 5 year warranty of the new sump pump.
They take a lot of pride in their work, because he said if I ever had questions, or if anyone would have to do work in "their" conditioned crawlspace, they would come back if needed to make repairs to be certain there was no damage.
I was comfortable having them in my home and felt confident that the work was going to be high quality because I could tell by their experience and our conversations that they knew what they were doing.
Not everyone has a need for this service, and its not cheap, (you get what you pay for) but I would HIGHLY recommend them.
I can't say enough good things about them. They were so nice, and in was very happy with the whole experience.
The asbestos covered pipes were removed and Matt returned for another trip under the house. More pictures were taken which actually showed that some asbestos and piping had been missed so a call was made for the removal company to return to finish the job. After all asbestos had been removed, the Crawlspace Doctor returned, cleaned out all debri and hung wires and plumbing that needed to be secured. As the work was done, more pictures were taken showing HVAC issues (including a duct that was laying on the ground and had been disconnected for who knows how long) and some minor plumbing issues. I had others come in to make those repairs. During one of the trips under the house Matt discovered rotten and missing wood which turned out to be inadequate work from years back from another project - which I had to have fixed too.
After the HVAC work was completed, Crawlspace Doctor returned and installed all vapor barriers and insulation, completing the work. At every step of the way pictures were taken and shown to me and a CD was provided with all the pictures. These were extrememly valuable as I had to refer to them with others that were working under the house.
This was a very involved project that required a number of other people to come in and make repairs and perform services. All of this was not planned for or budgeted but absolutely needed to be done. I would not have known about these issues if the Crawlspace Doctor had not been so thorough. The things that they pointed out to us did not result in any additional income for them though because we had other people perform the repairs that they pointed out. The price was high, but considering what they did, the amount of time that it took to complete the work, and the conditions under the house I think it was a fair price. I am anxious to see how this work helps to reduce our energy expenses this summer and next winter. I would recommend the Crawlspace Doctor for their thoroughness, hard work, promptness, attention to detail and what appears to be a very good system/product.
I proceeded to have three other companies out as this was a big undertaking and I wanted to make sure I felt confident in who I chose to work with. All three of the other companies dropped into the hole I had created and acted as if they were looking around but I could tell they weren't being as though as Matthew had, which instantly turned me off, if they were this lax with the approach I could only imagine their effort in doing the actual work.
Throughout the process of getting other proposals, I continued to discuss and share with Matthew these other companies approach. Needless to say, I was comfortable and confident with Matthew and The Crawlspace Doctor.
The crew showed up on time everyday and if there were going to be any delays, Matthew always made sure to communicate with me to keep me informed. Matthew and his team worked with me to get to a point where they could pull off the job in order for me to have mold remediation performed and were right back to things as soon as they could safely enter back into the crawl.
Everything that was initially proposed was performed in a professional manner. The only thing that they didn't do was remove one or two bushes that they thought they would have to remove to create my outside entrance. They worked with me here too and saved the bushes.
In an area most people, myself included, wouldn't dare to venture into, Matthew and his team left me with no worries and as a Raving Fan.
I will Rave about their work and would recommend them to anyone experiencing an issue or questioning anything in their crawlspace!
Crawlspace Doctor finished the work ahead of schedule and he went above and beyond to do a great job! He even Cleaned my Gutters Free of Charge!!!! Bless you Robert I'll forever be grateful for all your help!!!
I would recommend Crawlspace Doctor to all my friends and family. Great Experience!!!
The owner answered each of my questions with an explanation of what will work in my situation, and offered alternatives that could apply.
At no time was there any pressure to buy now, to buy an upgraded service, or to buy additional items. He even gave me advice on how I should request problems with my crawlspace be handled if we chose not to use his service.
The inspection and explanation was concise, and informative.
The workers showed up on time, were pleasant to talk to, and cleaned up after themselves.
When I requested a change to his initial proposal, the owner agreed to the change, and kept my cost the same.
The finished product matched all the photo's he had on his laptop showing satisfied customers in their crawlspaces happy with the work done.
I am completely pleased with the results, and would recommend them to my neighbors.
