I bought $1026.00 worth of granite from Builder's Surplus about six weeks ago. I bought a 25.5"x9' slab, a 36"x6' slab, and the back splashes. That was enough to do the whole job with no seams. When the installers (and believe me I use the term very loosely) arrived I was shocked at how rude, and arrogant the lead man (Rida) was. The first thing out of his mouth was that there wasn't enough granite to do the job. I told him that I knew there was, because I drew the counters with measurements myself, and the salesman sold me enough to do it with no seams. He quickly told me that he didn't care what the salesman said, that he didn't work for them, he was a contractor. So I told him that he was a contractor that wasn't doing a lick of work at my house, and to get off of my property. When I called Builder's Surplus ( which is only about five miles from the house ) after being put on hold, and transferred several times, I finally got to talk to someone about the situation. They told me that the installers were there unloading my granite, and that the installer said that he was just trying to tell me that there was going to be an extra $65.00 that he would have to charge me. I told them that somebody was lying, because up to that point nobody had said anything about an extra charge, the installer had said that there wasn't enough to do it. I told them to never mind, just hold on to my granite a couple of days and I have my own installers pick it up, and they agreed. Two days later I went with my new installers to pick up my granite. The guy that was going to load us out informed me that they didn't have the 9' slab, or the backsplashes. I told him that they should have it cause their installer had brought it out to my house just two days earlier to install, but I threw him out. The warehouseman told me that he didn't know how they were expecting to install it cause they did not have the granite for the backsplashes two days ago either, and that they had never had a 9' slab. I pointed at the 9' slab right in front of us and ask him what that was. He told me that that slab had somebody else's name on it. Builder's Surplus had sent the installer out to my house without enough granite to do my job, the contractor was a jerk, and then Builder's Surplus lied to me, by saying that there was enough granite, just that there was just a misunderstanding between the contractor and myself about an extra charge. I was beside myself. I told them to just give me my money back and they would never see me again. They said that they would be happy to, but they couldn't, because there was nobody there that could sign the check. I had to come back after 3:00. Shouldn't these people be smart enough not to sell something they don't have? I will never spend another penny there again, and I would advise you not to either.
