Originally diagnosed as a torque converter failure. Was told the valve body would also need to be rebuilt. Based on our timeline we did not have another week to wait for the valve body repair...as we had a trip planned. We were told the torque converter would take care of the issue and we could take our trip with no worries. The repair bill was roughly $100 less than $700 quoted...so that went well. 700 miles into our trip, the car started having the same issues. We were unsure if we would make it home. We returned the vehicle when we got back from our trip. We scheduled the repair a week in advance and were told it would take a week to complete. Considering we knew the valve body needed to be rebuilt, I assumed this would resolve the issue and it was no big deal. After a week of not hearing anything, I called and was told it would be another week. I also informed them of a coolant leak and asked to have it looked at. Ultimately I was told the valve body was fine and the transmission software needed an update. I was told the coolant leak was caused by a bad water pump. I authorized the repairs for an additional $450 or so. I authorized the repairs and picked up the car after 2 weeks. When I picked up the vehicle, grease was embedded in the carpet, steering wheel, and door panel. I had a full tank of gas when I dropped it off and a quarter tank when I picked it up. After driving the car for a bit I discovered the transmission still had the same issue. When I checked my coolant level a week or so later, it was empty. I called and spoke with Mike and was told the transmission would need to be rebuilt and they would have to look at it again to diagnose the leaking coolant. He assured me the water pump needed to be replaced regardless...guess I will never truly know. He indicated he would get back with me on the cost of a rebuild...that call never came. I guess it doesn't matter since I can't afford to continue paying someone NOT to fix my car. It is very disappointing. This shop came highly recommended. Probably fine for general maintenance such as oil changes or brake jobs. Be very careful. I do not believe accurately diagnosing issues is their thing. If I wanted to continue throwing parts at it until I stumble upon the fix, I could do that myself. I rely on professionals to accurately diagnose the problem. So...after 3 weeks in the shop and over $1000 paid, I still have the same broken car...with less fuel in the tank and lots of grease inside. It does not appear they stand behind their work. If you decide to use this service...you better hope they get it right the first time. It's your problem if they don't.
Update...after 6 months of getting worse, I did some research and discovered the issue may have been caused by the coil packs sending bad signals to the sensor in the transmission. I purchased a new set of coil packs for $200 and installed them in 30 minutes. My "transmission" problem was 100% solved. This "professional" mechanic had indicated a need for a rebuilt transmission at a cost of several thousand dollars. The true diagnosis was simply a tune up. I would avoid this shop like the plague. They do not know what they are doing.
