Bluegrass was not the low bidder and we chose them because of their years in business and their bid seemed more in line with a quality job. They started out saying ' yeah, we can do that' and then after the job was underway, switched to 'sorry, that's impossible' to many of our requests. We had to stop the job at one point because we learned we needed additional permits from the electric company. Bluegrass knew what the permits were and immediately offered to pursue them, but didn't seem to want to do it until we called them on it - could have been a big headache for us later. We also warned them we were very close to the property line and that the garage and drive needed to stay within a particular line. This was ignored and we ended up hiring a surveyor to put lines in place to guide them and we had to apologize to the neighbor for grading and clearing that spilled over to his property - there was some damage done to trees that were to be left because they were not on our property and a good deal of rock that was dumped over the property line had to be moved back over the line. The night the neighbor came over to express his displeasure about the work being done on his property, he noticed that the heavy equipment left for the night was smoking and we had to put out a cigarette fire smoldering in the seat. We wanted nice stone work to be done on the outside to compliment the stone of our house, as well as retaining walls for the driveway, but we became so concerned with the proposals given by the contractor and the example of work being done prior to that point, that we hired our own stone contractor to do the work - it is the best part of the garage! The measurements were apparently not correct on the window placement and the windows do not have enough clearance to be removed without the screens hitting the top of the framing on the garage. This company has been in business for many years but it is being transitioned over to the younger generation and the experience seemed slim. It was more like learning as you go. In the end, the garage is attractive, but we ended up compromising on many of our requests and I felt we overpaid for what we were originally expecting. After the permit issue and the disregard of the property, I lost confidence. If you want a simple concrete block garage - with no windows - they can probably do a perfect job. They did refer us to a good garage door company and that is also very attractive part of the finished garage.
Description of Work: Hired Bluegrass to build a detached garage. We requested a good looking structure that looked like a stone cottage as it was located prominently on the property.
