Veterinarians
I took my dog in because she had a small rash on her stomach. The doctor assessed my dog and said that it looked like ringworm and if it wasn't ringworm than it was probably fungus-related. She thought it best to do a ringworm test (about 40 or 50 dollars). I had already searched pictures online to see what my dog's condition might be. I am no vet, but the rash my dog had looked nothing like ringworm. I decided to trust the doctor. She did the test and prescribed an anti-fungal spray (about 40 dollars). The anti-fungal spray did nothing. Two weeks later they call me and tell me the test was negative. My friend who is a vet said that you can check for ringworm with a blacklight. It costs literally nothing. When they called and said the test was negative I asked the doctor if I should come back in or wait and see if it goes away. She basically told me that she wasn't sure what it was but it might be an allergy. She didn't seem to care either way.
A more recent visit was for a check-up and getting shots. I dropped her off and they called me later and told me that they found some "debris" in her ear. I asked what it was and they said they didn't know and would like to do a test (about 40 dollars). I told them that I did not want to get it done and the woman seemed annoyed that I didn't say yes. She made it seem like I don't care about my dog if I didn't get it done.
Basically every single time I have a visit, they recommend more tests than necessary and prescribe unnecessary medication. They never seem knowledgeable about my dog. They do all the tests and have the time never explain the rationale or the result. Half of the time they don't even know what is wrong with my dog and just guess and give me a prescription. It is very frustrating. I have recently visited another vet that was completely the opposite in every way and I was astounded after I realized how poor the quality of the service is at Banfield in comparison.
If you care about your pet and want quality care I would recommend going elsewhere.
