Description of Work: I advertized for a week seeking bids to split the logs from 4 very large trees we had cut down recently at our residence. NOTE: Although Nick Webb's primary business is lawn care, he explained that mid-November business is a slow time, and thus he was interested in giving a bid on my wood splitting job. I got several callers who were interested. I required each bidder to visit the site where the logs were, and to submit a written, signed bid - using MY bid form - to me by Sunday at 5 pm. Creating and using my own little bid form let me ensure all bidders knew the scope of the work and my specific expectations (i.e, split into "woman size" segments, stack it on site in the designated area, clean up all debris, don't harm trees/bushes in area, complete the job between x dates, during x hours, etc.). I also required each bidder to give me a "flat rate maximum charge" bid. I've discovered that some who charge by the hour sometimes "expand" the work to costly sums, and didn't want that to happen.
