Upon my arrival to new digs, I am handed a 30 page rulebook for the building--never mentioned prior to leasing. I also find out that you can't control the temperature within your unit. And the building's "air conditioning" is set to 80 degrees. So, it's super hot in here. There are now 8 fans running at all times and the noise is deafening. I moved in here to be close to campus as I am a Ph.D. student. I typically study/work at home, but that won't be possible with the noise and temperature. Sleeping is impossible. Aside from all of that, the place is FILTY. Crushed crackers in the cabinets, hair and gunk in the fridge and freezer, mildew in the bathroom, soap scum in the other bathroom. And the cabinets and even dishwasher are full of the previous tenant's items. I've let Daryl and Cindy know that whomever they paid to clean (I assumed at first someone had, since they told me they were getting the place cleaned and painted) didn't clean and they shouldn't pay them. They said sorry and took a few bucks of the rent, but this mess... the more I looked about, the bigger it grew. I still have yet to get 100% unpacked (I'm maybe at 50% now) due to the HOURS spent cleaning. And I'm still not done. All of this done in the uncomfortable temperatures of the condo itself. I am beside myself with this entire situation, which has been a nightmare.
I have already told them day two of my time here that I will not be staying throughout the period of the lease. I explained that had I known about the lack of control over the temperature alone, I never, ever would've rented here. They can't seem to see what the problem is. Daryl actually told me that "no a/c unit will cool more than 20 degrees of what it is outside." Hmmm... Really? Because I just moved from Texas, where it's 110 degrees and yet you can go into stores and my apartment and get goosebumps because it is so cold. I mean, how ridiculous.
