We learned that our water heater was leaking Tuesday night. I called Mr Rooter Plumbing of Lexington KY on the Wednesday morning. They sent our a truck the same day. The plumber (Chase) looked at the water heater made a phone call, then gave me a price and said he could replace it that day. I agreed he drove from Nicholasville to Lexington to pick up a replacement was back in about an hour and a half. He went right to work and by 4:30 that afternoon he had completed the replacement and I once again had REALLY HOT WATER again. The job was clean and if you didn't know he was there you would have never knew that he had replaced the defective water heater. I DEFINITELY WILL HIRE THESE GUYS FOR ANY FUTURE PLUMBING NEEDS!!!

I have no complaint about the prompt service or the courteous plumber (Shawn) that replaced a toilet. However, $650 for the same toilet that Home Depot sells for $200 is criminal. The total came to $756 and I am just sick about it. I take responsibility for signing off on the work...that's on me. I can't compare Mr. Rooter to any other plumbing business but if this is standard practice, it's not only wrong but immoral. GOD help you if you need a toilet replaced. UPDATE SEPTEMBER 17, 2018..... After some research, I have determined the extent to which I was gouged by Mr. Rooter. As I stated earlier, Home Depot has the exact same toilet for $200 including tax. That is retail and does not take into consideration the contractor discount that Mr. Rooter would have received. His cost would have been about $150. I contacted 3 plumbers to get a quote for removing and replacing a toilet. That cost would be between $100 and $125 depending on what may need to be replaced such as the flange. So, if I would have purchased the toilet myself and had a plumber install it for me, the total cost would have been between $300 and $325. Now, I understand if the cost of the toilet had been $50 to $100 more for his profit but how do you justify more than $430 in cost to replace a toilet. The invoice that Mr. Rooter gave me did not breakdown or itemize the $756 charge. The invoice simply states AMERICAN STANDARD CHAMPION WHITE ELONGATED TOILET $756.75. NO COST FOR THE TOILET.....NO COST FOR THE LABOR.... NO COST FOR ADDITIONAL PARTS....NOT EVEN TAX According to David W. Napier, the owner of this Mr. Rooter franchise, he "doesn't break down his invoices'. The work was done on a weekday during business hours. For those who are trying to get by on a fixed income be prepared to pay dearly for the services of one Mr. Rooter. SO, CONSIDER THIS A WARNING!!!!!! BEFORE YOU CALL MR. ROOTER 2
Response from Mr Rooter Plumbing of Lexington KY
"So sorry we could not come to an agreement, however it is our policy to quote prices up front with no pressure. And we cannot accept a used toilet back into inventory. Again I apologize you were not pleased."

This was a huge project, and by the end they had done a great job.  Their quote was slightly higher than some others, but their warrantee coverage is at least twice as long (2 years).  We felt it was a very good price for the quality.  They were quite patient and understanding of several smaller issues we felt other providers may have been dismissive toward--anytime we had a question or an issue, it was fully explained to us and then taken care of in an outcome we were content with.  We were never made to feel as though our questions were an issue, and we didn't see annoyances when they happened (such as when they'd gone better than code and had to change a piece to appease Scott County code, which had to have been aggravating.)

The project itself was quite large and took quite a bit of time.  The front yard was dug up to lay new drainage, and to change the supply line.  All drainage pipes were removed from the house, and all supply lines were removed from the house (including in the walls).  We had intended to change the location of the water heater while replacing it however, instead the current location was improved, which was a better solution all around.  A total of two shower/tub combos were changed, and at least five faucets were changed.  A new box was put into the wall behind the icemaker, and the dishwasher drainage was re-routed and updated (two things we didn't even know to request, and showed commitment to doing things the "right" way).  Old holes in the foundation were filled in, and the sump pump routing was changed and expanded.  Two new hose bibs were installed.  Two toilets were changed from cast iron and integrated into the new drainage system.  The septic tank in the back was knocked in and filled with rock.  All disturbed earth was roughed in, then covered with hay and grass seed.

I would be remiss to not mention there were some timing issues at the beginning of the project, but they were well handled and the attention to detail more than made up for any issues that were incurred.  The timing issues were large enough that I was relieved I had paid by the job.  But again, the quality of work left nothing to be desired.  I would happily suggest them to friends/family.

For Kitchen sink - He said that I had multiple leaks from the shut-off valves, leaking from one of the sink baskets, and I needed a new faucet.  He quoted me over $500.00 to fix everything.  I had to go to Lowes and purchase my own faucet while he repaired everything else.  He was friendly and cleaned up after himself, but, he was kind of sloppy and left alot of plumbing putty around the new faucet.  The next day after he left I cleaned away some of the putty and noticed that the faucet (a one arm) was not sitting right, the plastic piece it sits on was jutting out nearly a half inch on one side.  This had been covered up with putty.  Also, a very small drip kept appearing on the bottom of the cabinet below the kitchen sink.  I looked and could not find where the leak was coming from.  I called, Mr Rooter and they sent out two guys who looked at it.  Both guys looked and said there was no leak, but they did fix the messy faucet, and then they left.  A few days later the very small drip  was still there and I took a picture of it to show them where the water was collecting on the pipe.  I wanted them to know I wasn't making this leak up.  I called Mr Rooter again and the same two guys from the second visit came out again and I showed them the picture.  They began looking and they found the problem.  I have a double sink, and when the basket was repaired on one sink, somehow the length of the pipe on the other basket was not the same length anymore and this was causing a problem.  Small amounts of water began seeping out, running along the pipe to the other side, collecting around the pipe, and then dripping in small amounts.  Anyway, they repaired it, said they were sorry they didn't find it the first time they were there, but, they were nice young guys and they were trying their best.  Overall, it took 3 visits to get things right and it was exhausting.  I feel some of the work was unnecessary and that I was definitely overcharged for what I got.
For the Washing Machine drain clog - all they were supposed to do was snake the drain so the washing machine could drain correctly.  They snaked the drain, said it was OK and left.  When laundry was done and washer began draining, water began seeping into the living room and this had never happened before.  Unfortunately, I was out of town and relatives were at my house during this repair.  They called me and I had to call Mr Rooter long distance.  I asked if the repairman had tested the washer draining before he left and he said yes.  I don't believe him.  He did go back and look at the problem and said that the problem was a big one.  That the repair was going to cost me a few thousand dollars to repair my old pipes and that I had an old house and that this was basically all my fault, not his. I think he punctured the pipe somewhere and doesn't want to admit that he screwed up.  This will cost me money, no doubt, but it will not be going to Mr Rooter.
After the kitchen sink problem I should have known better than to call them again, but, I thought I should at least give them a second chance.  Well, that second chance has left me without the use of my washing machine.  If it does end up costing me a lot I hope it will go to someone who will do a good job the first time.
I do not recommend Mr Rooter to anyone.  Overall, the work was not good and the prices are way too high.

The disposal side of the sink had clogged a couple of weeks ago and I was able to get it unclogged, but the next time I ran the dishwasher, water wouldn't drain from it.  There was not a filter from the dishwasher to clean and so I knew the problem was between the dishwasher and pipes.  I had hired Mr. Rooter before, to replace the kitchen faucet (which the technician did a great job doing) and so after talking to some friends, I decided it'd be wiser to have the problem reviewed by someone who knew what they were doing.
Cameron came out (same technician who had replaced the faucet) and cleaned the dishwasher vent that's located at the sink.  Did not charge me a penny!
For someone who knows nothing about plumbing and could have easily been taken, I so much appreciate Cameron's honesty and willingness to help me.  Will definitely call Mr. Rooter and ask for Cameron again.

I called because of a stopped up sink and the need for a toilet valve.
Unstopping the sink the normal way did not work causing the man to search deeper for the problem. That led to the discovery of grease clogged pipes and the need for new pipes.  The old pipes were 48 years old.

I discovered two of my three water heaters leaking around 3 PM.  Called Mr. Rooter and gave the details to a very friendly and helpful lady.  She assured me that a plumber would come to my residence as quickly as possible.  He arrived around 8PM, looked at the problem, and made his suggestion.  We decided to remove all three old units and replace them with one 80 gal unit.  He went to his price book and gave me a price of about $1,200 for all materials and labor and informed me there would be no extra charge for working late.  He went to the warehouse and picked up the new water heater and other needed materials and returned around 9 PM.  Around midnight he finished, cleaned up the area , and loaded up the old units.  He was very friendly and professional, and the price was in line with what I expected.  I would not hesitate  in calling Mr. Rooter next time I need a plumber.

I got them out of Angie's List.  I've used them in the past year for three different jobs and I've liked them.  They were real quick to get over here.  They were very creative and got the solution to the problem I had at that time.  I had a small leak after they had finished and they were able to get over here real quickly and solve that problem without any difficulty.  They did well.  The only thing I find with a lot of plumbing issues is that they tend to be kind off expensive but I think that has been the case with everyone I've gotten quotes from.  I've been real pleased with them if not I wouldn't have kept calling them back.

Finding myself in need of after-hours help, I called several local places advertising 24/7 service.  Mr. Rooter was the only one who could commit to coming within 2  hours; and actually arrived within 30 minutes of my call.  Roy was very nice, and took the time to understand all of our symptoms and history fully before offering a diagnosis or a quote.  Roy assured me that pulling the toilet and snaking the drain was the best approach, then showed me in the book what the charge would be.  $408.52 included the 3-year "advantage" membership -- cost would have been roughly $350 without the plan (Repair discounted ~$50 when purchasing the $100 membership).  I hope not to have to use it, but is now available just in case.
The motorized snake was big and heavy, and despite Roy taking reasonable care, did scratch the freshly painted (narrow) hall when coming up the stairs.  (Having a smaller snake available for small residential jobs would help prevent this.)  Roy let me watch, and showed me the clog as he removed it.  Apparently, the previous owners had a habit of flushing their dental floss -- not good.  He was finished and *thoroughly* cleaned up within two hours of arriving.
Price seemed a little high for less than two hours onsite, *BUT*, he was available promptly after hours.  I'd rather pay a little more for a job done right than leave a tenant without access to a toilet for a day or more, waiting for a plumber.  So no regrets.

The plumber showed up a little late - no big deal. He began to work on clearing a clogged drain in my upstairs tub with a snake. He insisted that the problem was easy to fix, and that he would be done in no time. After an hour I was surprised that I needed to let him know there was an access panel in the hallway. He moved his operation there and continued to work. After approx. 3 hrs. he explained that the clog was as hard as concrete and would not be able to be cleared by his machine. He proceeded to describe where the water line ran through the house. Upon entering my kitchen, we both noticed a wet area (about 2 ft. in diameter) on the ceiling - he had apparently damaged the drain while using the snake! He called his office and spoke with a supervisor; it was confirmed that I needed to replace the pipe from the basement up to the 2nd floor bathroom for an estimated cost of $3000. At the time, my husband was out of town, so I put the job on hold. Upon his return 2 days later, my husband was able to clear the clog for less that $35 in around 2 hrs.
In addition to taking up my entire morning and scaring me to death about replacing the pipe, the young plumber left my tub, bathroom floor and hallway floor filthy. He also sold me an neccesary maintenance plan, explaining that I would make my money back immediately with the job he was going to do for us. My husband call the Mr. Rooter office and discussed what had transpired. Eventually I was credited for the maint. plan costs AND the cost of the service call. In the end it is unclear if the plumber sent to my home was just young and inexperienced, or whether he was trying to take advantage of a person who had minimum knowledge of plumbing repair.

When I called I was told there would be a $50 travel charge and I accepted that, I knew what the problem was I just didn't have a snake long enough to reach the clog.  I figured $100, after the tech arrived he said there would be an additional charge of $214 along with the $50 travel charge.
I was amazed, he had to snake out a drain, the clog was approximately 40 to 44 feet down the drain and it was going to cost me over $200.
Well it is fixed and warrented for 6 months but I will be going to by a 50ft snake for the next time.
