In 2004 I wanted to sell a property on North Limestone that had been owned by my late father. I engaged Gregory Montgomery (Montgomery Real Estate) to sell the property. After several months with no success, Gregory offered to buy the property for $17,000. As Gregory had thusfar presented himself to be honest and trustworthy, I unfortunately agreed without consulting an attorney or a realtor. The sale was consummated at his realtor's office. We signed the papers and he presented a deposit check for $250.00 with me essentially holding a mortgage. I deposited his check in my account. The next week the check was returned for insufficient funds. Still trusting, I assumed it was an error and that he would get in touch with me to rectify said error. No payment was ever received. Unable to contact or get a reply from him, I belatedly realized that I had been had and that he had no intention of paying. He became impossible to find. Subsequently, I found out he had sold the property for twice the amount he owed me. I had no recourse other than to file a lawsuit against him. A lawsuit has been filed but servers have yet to locate him. I conclude that Gregory Montgomery is dishonest and a crook and would advise anyone to beware of doing business with him.
