Dog Gone Proud

Doggone Pound was a great choice to get our girl Riley off on the right foot. Lisa was extremely easy to work with and taught us so much about how work with her on a daily basis. We took advantage of the in-home training and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for obedience training.

Taz first meet and greet with Lisa was stressful for Taz. He's approximately 4 years old and came to us as a rescue so we had no background on him. Lisa was very gentle with him and worked to make him comfortable around her.
Good ol Taz was very helpful the first meeting by jumping right in and showing Lisa what we were talking about. He snapped, growled and was basically a very bad boy.
Lisa explained Taz behavior to us, told what to do and not do. Each week she gave us "homework" and worked with us to be sure we knew how to do the exercises correctly. The following week she would run thru the exercises again to be sure we were still doing them correctly and ask if we had any questions, concerns.
By the time the classes were ending Taz would be waiting for Lisa to arrive and was thrilled to see her. Taz really enjoyed the training after he learned to relax and understood what was going on. Seriously, he started having fun and acted like it was play time.
Lisa taught us how to work with Taz and his problems. Lisa explained that Taz anger issues are an going problem and we will need to continue to work with him but even after this short time he's a better adapted dog and family member.
His groomer was thrilled and couldn't believe the difference in Taz. She said he was so much easier to handle now.
Several of our friends that see Taz on the weekends have commented on the difference in him. He's calmer and actually responds to commands.
Lisa made training fun and as stress free as possible. She was kind and gentle with Taz and helped him relax and learn.

From the beginning of the training to the graduation, Lisa was a pleasure to work with. She clearly told us about what the training would involve, and helped us to understand the commitment to regular practice and consistency we would need to achieve success. She provided us with a written agreement, as well as a guidebook containing tips for bringing a new puppy/dog into our home and many of the skills and exercises we would be learning.
In each training session, Lisa came to our house on time, and was very professional but also warm and caring. She would tell us about the skills we would cover, she demonstrated them, and then coached us as we learned the skills. We learned basics like sit, lay down, stand, come (recall), wait, stay, loose leash walking, patience and focus, owners as leaders, drop it, leave it, calm introductions with people and other dogs, and more.
One thing we really like about Lisa's style (and part of the reason we decided to hire her) is that she focuses on positive reinforcement training, which really makes the bond between the owners and the dog stronger. We also really appreciated that she was willing to talk about specific questions, concerns, and some annoying problems we were having with our young pup. We could easily reach her by email or phone, and she was very detailed in her coaching and ideas. We had a great experience, learned a ton, and still have things we can work on and learn. We might also hire Lisa for additional training (intermediate, advanced, canine good citizen, etc.) We recommend her for people that want quality training from an experienced dog lover that truly cares about her work.
