When I first phoned the company to get an estimate for the work, the man with whom I spoke said they were very busy but he would get back to me the first of the following week. In fact, I heard nothing from them for more than two weeks. Because of a deadline imposed by the homeowners' association, I contacted a firm my neighbor recommended. This firm came promptly, gave a reasonable estimate, and had nearly completed performing all needed work before I came home one day to find a several-page estimate from Dejarnette stuck into my storm door. This estimate was for nearly three times the amount the firm who did the work had given us. That firm actually ended up charging us a bit less than their original estimate, since we did not need to fix one thing we had worried about. What was most disturbing to me about the Dejarnette estimate was the fact that the attached photos of the exterior areas to be repaired were not even of our unit, as far as I could tell, and that the estimate itself included replacing siding we had already replaced with hardyplank composite siding two years prior (so it could not have been rotten, as the estimate said it was). That day I called Dejarnette and simply told them we had engaged someone else since their estimate had been so late. I was upset about the estimate at the time, but I did not even talk to them about the errors in their estimate sheet. It didn't seem important to argue with them about it. I just felt lucky that I had not used this company. I love the company we used and will be using them in the future.
Description of Work: I did not employ Dejarnette because they were weeks late with their estimate. By the time I did receive their estimate I had employed a company my neighbor had used. This company did the work quickly and professionally at about 1/3 the cost of the estimate provided by Dejarnette. The worst part was that Dejarnette attached photos with their estimate, and the photos were not even of our unit (in the condo complex). They gave us an estimate for replacing siding we had replaced two years previously, and attached a photo showing rotten boards where we had already had hardyplank installed.

They did a real good job and they did it in an expeditious manner. The price was right. They did the work while I was out of town so they did it in their own timeframe but it was done before they said it would be done.
Description of Work: I used Dejarnette Building to remodel a room.

Overall we are quite pleased with efforts. The workmanship is excellent as reflected in the higher than average Joe price. I'd rather pay for quality first time around then redo things later. He and the subcontractors we dealt with have years of knowledge on historic homes and they care about the integrity and character of these structures and their work in general. George was recommended to us by others with old homes he has worked on. He also does work on newer homes as well. Final invoice was carefully gone over and every receipt turned in, even for small dollar fasteners. He's hard to get scheduled because he is in demand, but once he gets going I think you'll be pleased.
Description of Work: On late 19th century Victorian home, front porch rafters and subfloor removed and new ones installed plus coordinated installation of copper roof on this. Carpentry work on floor and some wall repair in bathroom and coordinated all the other repairs in this room. Installed tin ceiling in bath and hallway.

The project took about 1 month, delayed mainly by rain. George and two partners did all the work themselves except some major flashing replacement around one window set in brick veneer. They were neat, regularly showed up each day, and spent time talking with me about what they were doing. They discussed every "surprise" they found and took pictures to document the work they did (including underlayment replacement that would be hidden by siding once the job was completed. They were careful about not damaging surrounding landscaping. I enjoyed working with them on this project and the workmanship was as good as I've seen in Lexington.
Description of Work: Removed all siding and windows on 2nd story of house; repaired rotted underlayment around windows; replace all siding and windows with new; repaired roof and window flashing where necessary; repainted house exterior (including existing windows and trim on first floor); repaired interior drywall around windows that were replaced; painted all new windows and drywall on the interior 2nd floor. Cost of new windows (12) are not included.
