Despite their somewhat informal names, Spanky and Shaggy were true professionals. They listened to our problems with our older house and were able to come up with solutions. They answered all of our questions and were very safety minded. They were also very tidy. We would definitely call Bookman again.

They called me to say they were on the way. They were punctual and started work immediately. Both Justin & Tanner were easy to converse with and the project proceeded smoothly. Wouldn’t hesitate to call them again. Tell Justin congratulations on his upcoming wedding.

Perfectly! Job was completed in a timely manner, everyone was super knowledgeable and professional, they cleaned up after themselves. It was exactly how you want EVERY job to go (but most don't).

called Robert on Friday night, returned call with the hour. He followed up by doing exactly what he said he would do.
He texted me saturday morning to tell me he would be here between 9-9:30. He was on time, inspected outlets and breakers, and fixed wiring that caused problem. He was professional, explained what he was doing, and resolved the issue quickly. Would call him again.

Bookman has done all of our electrical in our home, since we have lived here. We used them a year ago to replace our service coming into the house, as well as, the electrical panel in the basement. It was a huge job that took several days.
More recently, they have helped us update our kitchen. Rewiring for the new dishwasher and wall oven. Robert has also helped us with a few random odds and ends when asked.
I do recommend them, especially for working on older homes. They have always done a great job and at a fair price.

John thank you for calling me Sunday night when I ask for a quote, I was surprised to receive a call so quickly. However, I was less than please with the work performed. Specifically with the installation of the ceiling fans. Your guy ASSUMED what I wanted done, and do NOT ask. Then lectured me on the buying habits of consumer. As he was not interested in fixing problems.

Customer provided incorrect ceiling fans for installation, customer didn't provide any detail to job when we arrived to perform work
James Havens 8/29/2013
Since you provided no detail why in your professional opinion I provided the incorrect ceiling fans, then why did you not inform me that in your professional opinion I had purchased incorrect ceiling fans before you just installed them? As to my not providing any detail to job, you just arrive and decide what needs to be done and proceed to do it? Don't think so. The guys ask what I needed done. I showed them.
Guy B worked on the living room ceiling fan light fixture because I told him the pull chain was not working. He fixed it but put in a three way switch. So now I have to pull the chain three time to get the light to work. But it works. The fan made a horrible vibrating noise afterward. He tried to fix that by sticking a piece of paper between the fan housing and ceiling. After your guys left. I solved the problem.
The dinning room light fixture, Guy A ASK what height I wanted it to hang from the ceiling by holding the base of the fixture via the chain from the ceiling. Never mind that the actual light fixtures and globe hangs an additional 6 inches below the base. When I said that assembled fixture look a little low, I was informed that in new construction without any instructions other wise, they typically hung them 59 1/2 inches. Guy B then proceeded to tell how after hanging a particularly difficult fixture, when the customer said it was too low and ask two more links to be removed, they just pretended to remove the links. True enough the base of the light is approximately that height from the floor (I measured later). The fixture was on a dimmer switch, which Guy A pointed out did not work. However, he never volunteered to check it out for me and when I ask about the possibility that the fixture might not be connected properly, he just shrugged. Guy A pointed out obvious imperfections in the globe but proceeded to hang it in the fixture anyway. I took the globe out after they left and exchanged it. I also later had the chain shortened on the light fixture.
Guy B took out the bathroom exhaust fan and cleaned it. He explained what I would need to do if I wanted to replace it. The fan makes less noise. There was no offer to replace the fan.
As to the "incorrect" fans. Guy A said "I would never buy fans from them", since he was looking at the fan in the ceiling at the time, I was not sure to which fan this comment was directed. Then Guy A proceed to say what a crappy box was in the ceiling. Guy B made a suggestion as to improve the box, but Guy A said "We are not getting into that". Instead Guy A proceeded to install the fan as to the way he ASSUMED I wanted it done. He did come into the room where I was working with the flooring installer and ASK which side I wanted to show on the fan blades. That was more important than to ask how I wanted the fan installed. All over the outside of the box there are pictures of the THREE possible ways to install the fan. The first instruction in the installation book is to decided how you want to hang the fan 1. close mount 2. down rod. When I challenged GUY A on why he hung the fan that way, he replied that since there was a fan with a down rod previously installed, he ASSUMED that is what I wanted. The he proceeded to lecture me on what customers buy. If they wanted a flush mount fan, they should buy a flush mount fan. I only wanted the fan installed close mount that is all.
Then Guy A very facetiously ask if there were any special instructions for installing a new kitchen light. Guy B installed the light. The old fixture "was fired". Guy B also received a substantial electrical shock while installing the light.
I have had another electrician look at the fans. He re-installed the fans as close mount at a cost of $60.00.
Response from Bookman's Electrical Service LLC
"Electrician went around with customer to go over job, existing ceiling fans in rooms were all on down rods, he mentioned replace new ceiling fans exactly like existing ceiling fans. Dimmer switch customer didn't want to spend money for new. Exhaust fans, customer didn't want to spend money for repair. Customer was present and watching every move, never said anything until work was complete. Will counter offer $30 refund to get case resolved."

Our electricity was not working in part of our house. KU diagnosed the problem as a burned up lug in the meter base and told us to call an electrician to have the meter base replaced. Robert Bookman spoke to the KU service provider by phone, bought the needed parts, and changed out the meter base that same day. He arranged to have it inspected as well. I called one other electrician for a quote, and he quoted me $550, so I think that Bookman's price was fair. I have no complaints and would recommend him to others.
