I was being treated for SEVERE pain in my shoulder and upper arm along with numbness in my hand and fingers by a physician who prescribed pain pills and muscle relaxers for strained muscles. Even with those pills, the pain would not stop. It was getting to the point that I could not sleep or work. By this time I was getting desparate for pain relief; I was willing to undergo any proceedure known to man to eliminate this excruciating pain. I made an appointment (not necessary, walk-ins welcome) to see Dr. Barry Pelton at Bluegrass Chiropractic. We discussed my issues thoroughly. I could tell Dr. Pelton was genuinely concerned about my condition. He did not believe that muscles were the problem, and that he thought I had a pinched nerve in my neck, either the spinal chord itself or where the nerves branch out between the vertebrae. He manipulated my neck and back, then had me lay on my back. At this point the pain was almost unbearable, especially in my upper arm. As I lay there, he started pulling on my head with quite a bit of effort, then while still pulling, rotated my head upward. Absolutely amzing! INSTANT RELIEF!!! I couldn't hardly believe it! After all the time I had been in such terrible pain, it immediately disappeared. Dr. Pelton was right, the pain was caused by a pinched nerve. To check exactly where the pinched nerve is, he scheduled an MRI for me. He then had me see a neurosurgeon who performed a mylogram and CT scan, who then gave me my options on what could be done, which includes surgery. I have never had any kind of surgery before, and really don't ever want to have it, so I went back to Dr. Pelton and discussed my options, and decided to manage my pain and numbness by seeing Dr. Pelton whenever it starts to bother me. Since we know where the problem is, I can pretty much avoid positions that place pressure on the nerves, but when I need help managing my pain, including the numbness in my hand and fingers, Dr. Pelton is there to save the day. I owe much thanks to Dr. Pelton. He came through where medical physicians fell short. By the way, his staff is great, also. They are very friendly and helpful. I enjoy my visits with them. You probaly noticed that I rated Availabiliy as a B instead of an A. This is because the office is only open 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Tuesday and Thursday. However, they are open 8:00 AM until 6:00PM Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but closed from 12:00 to 2:00 PM for lunch, a vey minor inconvenience when you consider on three days they are open until 6:00 PM, and welcome walk-ins. And there is hardly any waitng time at all, and most often no waiting time at all! Needless to say, I could not recommend Bluegrass Chiropractic and Dr. Barry Pelton more. Just go. You owe it to yourself. P.S. Why insurance companies are so hostile towards chiropractors, I don't know, but they should be treated as equals to medical physicians, as in certain cases (probably more than less) they can actually save the insurance companies money. Case in point, mine: undergo surgery and be off work for a little while, probably followed by physical therapy or go see a chiropractor once in awhile. Which is cheaper?
