We found out we had no hot water late on a Thursday night. We called Barkley Blevins and spoke to the dispatcher around 9:00 am and they had someone out by 11:00 am. Our hot water heater is in our crawl space, so the regular size wasn't going to work. They said it would be Monday because of the size, but they called around and found one in Lexington, got it and installed it that afternoon! We were so happy that it was done so quickly. We were very happy with the work and how quickly it was done.

It was mostly an unpleasant experience, not only because of the obvious inconvenience, but also because I didn't feel I could trust the work crew to be professional and honest. Here's the story: The technician arrived promptly to diagnose and start repairs. These had to be done over a 3-day period because it was a big job. Overall, the work seems to be OK. But they consistently overestimated their hours on the job, and at $82/hr this added up quickly. For example, the first day the tech was on the job for 2.5 hrs but I was asked to sign something for 3.75 hrs. Fortunately I caught this, but the following day they misreported start time, lunch time, and time to retrieve parts. When I informed the site supervisor, he said that I should use another company if I was unhappy with the service. They did not follow my specific instructions regarding a part o the job, and had to return the following day to correct it. A week later the problem recurred but they returned to fix it under warranty. The final invoice included a charge of almost $200 for parts that cost about $80 at Lowes. I have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the state Division of Plumbing, and the Attorney General's office regarding the practices of this company. As of 5/14/2011, it is unresolved.

I called Barkley Blevins because I had a whistle in my kitchen sink and the stopper in my bathroom sink was broken. The first plumber that came out was pretty much incompetent. He replaced the sprayer on my kitchen sink, which didn't fix the whistle and he replaced the stopper, which immediately closed up and wouldn't open again. I had to call the company to send out another plumber. The second plumber was actually competent. He replaced the aerator on the kitchen sink, which took care of the whistle immediately and fixed the stopper so it would open and close. I was billed for both of these visits. When I complained, because the first plumber didn't really fix the kitchen sink and messed up the bathroom sink, I was told I still had to pay for his services and time. After a second complaint they did remove some of the labor charges, but I still ended up paying nearly $400 for two relatively easy repairs.
