Donn's Decks

As previously stated, he never followed up on giving me an estimate for the deck I was wanting. After several phone calls placed to him by myself, and him not following up, I gave up on making any further contact with this contractor for the project. I got in contact with several other contractors and got what I needed from them. I've seen Donn's Decks ad in the Oldham Era for years, and saw that he has an A+ rating from Angie's List, but I have to ask HOW and WHY? This contractor only follows up with customers when he feels like fooling with them, and cannot be counted on. He merely wasted my time! If he can make his living performing (or not) his job in such a manner, then so be it, but consumer be warned...You may be wasting time trying to get this person to follow up giving you a proposal on your desired project.

We had contacted Don on January 9th to schedule a estimate on how much a new deck would cost. He said to give him a couple of days and he would get back to us to schedule the appointment. Well needless to say he never called us back and we attempted to contact him another time. Don never got back to us. I don't know how companies can run like that and not get back to you, that just isn't good business. I would never run a company and not go out to try to gain more customers. That's unprofessional and there's no excuse for it. It's sad when you try to use someone locally and they don't seem to care. Some of these people have reviewed that he did a amazing job on there deck, but it makes you wonder how many times they had to try to track him down to get him to come out to an appointment. I feel that if someone wants you as a customer, they'll do whatever it takes to gain you as a customer. I would not recommend him, seems very unprofessional.

Donn was really nice to work with. He did a very good job and one can tell that he really takes pride in the work he does. I would definitely use Donn in the future.

Donn McCombs from Donn's Deck was a pleasure to work with. He was very responsive and came out the day after my call to look over the job and then gave me a quote on the spot. He started the day after we signed the contract and didn't stop ( except for a couple of weather delays) until he and his crew were done with our decks. He was meticulous with the measurements and our neighbors were impressed with the quality of the deck as they observed from both sides. He added several extras like a wall of boards so that people on the lower deck would not see the underside of the upper deck which makes it seem more like an outdoor room. He kept me informed of what he was doing by phone and he was more concerned with the quality of the job than even I was which is saying something.

Donn returned my initial phone call the day I left him a message and gave me an exact price (not estimate but actual price) by that evening, after visiting my home and discussing what I would like. Donn was flexible with my wishes through the process and during the construction we agreed on some changes but he was always up front about how it would affect my cost before getting me to agree to something. Donn was very accessible through the whole process and was always on site for at least a portion of every day. When weather got them behind, Donn and his 2 man crew worked on the weekends to catch up. I asked to do the painting myself (what little required painting) to save some money and Donn was fine with that and even gave me some recommendations on how to do it best and with what supplies. Donn even came to my house during my painting to check on my progress and give me some tips. Donn was not the cheapest option but he provided great service, only used the highest quality materials (both the wood and composite portions) and did not cut any corners during the construction process thus providing a great value. Most of Donn's work exceeded my expectations but during and after construction there were a couple of things that I wanted corrected to my liking. In those few instances, Donn was more than happy to redo, got my approval before moving on and did not try to charge extra. I am very happy with the finished product and feel that I got a good value and was treated fairly.
