The end result was beautiful, but the road getting there was rough. I got the estimate, signed the contract and called for a week to find out when he was coming. They didn't answer my calls. Finally, he called and gave an approximate date which came and went. He said he was late because there was a problem with the last job, a problem with the weather and his truck broke down, costing him $750. Two days later, he showed up. In the process of taking off my roof, 2 skylights were destroyed due to what he claims was dry rot and it would cost me $750. I told him I didn't have the money to pay for the skylights unless I could pay by credit card. He said he would accept that. He also took a check for $6350 for the roofing job. He did not leave me an invoice when the job was complete and I could not be reimbursed until he gave me an invoice. He didn't return any of my calls, so my insurance adjuster called him and he faxed the invoice. When he finally did fax my insurance company for the job, it did not include the $750 for the skylight. Finally he called me to say he had lost the credit card number, and I told him that I didn't think I should pay for that since the skylights were adequate until the roofing job was done. He said he was going to file a 'materials lien' on my house if I did not pay this amount. He also said my house would be foreclosed on in a year if I did not pay the $750 which I questioned. This contractor needs to be honest and not threaten people. One negative comment negates hundreds of dollars of advertising.
