Several weeks ago, I had a whole house interior project priced. I met with this couple and we agreed on a price. I will say that had seen their work and it looked like they did a fine job. I don't know where things went so wrong. Anyway - we agreed on a price, and as they didn't have other jobs lined up afterward, they wanted to start in on my interior work. As I didn't own the home yet, I said that wasn't possible. However, I also had some exterior work on my current home that could be done. They appeared thankful for that additional three days worth of work, and I too was happy to take something off of my plate. Exterior work - I started to get a bad feeling when they cancelled several times. They like to work in the early morning and I get that, but what I didn't get is they kept cancelling on me because it was wet. It is April in Kentucky, there is literally dew every single day. This shouldn't be a surprise that you can't start work at 8 am. They also had lined up other work. At one point, I told them if they couldn't complete the work, I would, I just needed to know so I could plan. They said they wanted the work, cancelled a couple more times, I got the picture. We agreed that they would still start work on the new house as scheduled. Interior work - I sent an email outlining the colors and types of paint that I wanted in the new house. I acknowledged that I was adding two items (exterior of a front door and a storm door) that were not in the original price. I also want to state that most of the house is beige and is going to white, so the color change is not horribly drastic. They wrote back and told me the price would be double. I told them to have a terrific day! I had hesitation before I met these people as it is just a couple and not a small company of a crew of people. However, they work on the regular with a local interior decorator and had just completed work for a friend. They seemed like they really needed the work, and I thought I was being a good person in giving work to them. At the time, they cancelled on me, I was (am) dealing with an unexpected personal tragedy. I feel so violated and furious. Twice the price for beige to white. Surprised at dew on the grass. No thank you, I should have trusted my gut. I am going to with company that I interviewed. Be warned about broken commitments.
