Mr. Ohmer was fantastic to work with. He treated my extremely small job, in comparison to the scope of work his company normally does, with the utmost care and professionalism. I will definitely be contacting him for any/all concrete work I need in the future.
Was supposed to replace a porch step and portion of sinking sidewalk leading from the porch. Mr.Ohmer did the work himself.
He did the digging and decided that the step did not need replacement. He used bagged concrete which did not blend with the already poured concrete. He backed a dump truck down the yard dumping dirt and hand spreading it. He hand seeded grass seed topping it off with straw. When I asked if he had wet the straw, he said the ground was wet enough. When I went outside later that day all the straw was blown into a neighor's yard. I had to rake and reseed."I am sorry you were not completely satisfied with the work. As I recall, the job was completed within 24 hours of the initial contact with me. As for the concrete, unfortunately, no new concrete matches existing concrete, bagged or otherwise. Over time, the disparity will diminish. The concrete was mixed by hand because the area was so small that ordering a concrete truck would have unnecessarily increased the estimate. Finally, I would been happy to have placed additional straw had I been notified of the issue. With the existing moisture in the ground and rain in the forecast, I felt that adding water was unnecessary. We are committed to supplying our customers with fair prices, outstanding service, professionalism and honesty that is overwhelmingly lacking in this field of work. Thank you."
The owner, Chuck Ohmer, was extremely accommodating. He came out on a Saturday to do the job since we were in a hurry. We were closing the following Monday and wanted the steps in before the move, so our dogs could off the deck and out into the fenced backyard to do their business. He did a great job and we plan to have him back in the fall (after our other house sells) for lots more concrete and landscape drainage work.
Chuck Ohmer really knows landscape drainage and researched carefully what the problem was with our wet back yard. He is an engineer, but explained in terms that I could understand why the rain water was collecting at our back door. I highly recommend him.
I called four other places before I saw this company and contacted them. Out of the 1st four places I called only 2 called back. One company came and checked it out but, the estimate was very high and the 2nd called back after I had already hired Ohmer Inc.
When I called the # listed Chuck Ohmer answered the phone and was very friendly and professional and made plans to come check the step out the next day. He called about half hour before he came to let me know he was on his way. After checking out the step he said he didn't think it needed to be completely replaced to fix the problem and explained that he could just saw off the damaged area and replace it. He suggested I talk to the buyers and tell them. I went ahead and had him give me a estimate for both ways which he had back to me by the next morning. I then spoke to my agent and he said to see if Chuck would write a letter to explain that sawing it off and only replacing that portion would fix problem. I called Chuck and asked if he could do that and he wrote a email that night and the buyers agreed to only have the damaged portion replaced.
After we received the OK I called Chuck to schedule a time for him to fix the step. He was here the day before Thanksgiving and took care of it. He covered it up after he was finished and called the day after Thanksgiving to let me know he would be back on Monday to check it. He was here Monday afternoon and cleaned up the area and took his time making sure everything looked good.
We were extremely pleased with the step and all the extra he put into it. I was even having trouble finding someone to work on some damaged soffit for us and he offered to call around for me and find someone. I did get a hold of someone and told him to no longer worry about it.
Highly recommend OHMER CONTRACTING INC!!!!!!!!
!!!!
He was able to do the job within a week or two after we spoke (after some bad weather subsided), and did most of the work himself with one other worker. In addition to pouring the porch slab and replaing the sidewalk portion, they added a large amount of topsoil to level out thefront yard, seeded approx. 1/3 of the yard and spread straw. Also they filled in an open area under our side porch steps where chipmunks had established a home, or at least a few tunnels!
Our front yard had been very bare and uneven for several years after having a sewer pipe replacement and foundation repair. We'd tried several times ourselves to improve the grass growth and had also tried a professional landscaper 3 years prior. Chuck Ohmer and his associates did a wonderful, thorough job, and now several weeks later we have a much greener, fuller yard that we're not ashamed of :-)
