Many people think HOSPICE is all the same. This is not the case. There are actually many different Hospice organization and they can be non-profit as well as for profit. My experience with Hospice has been positive in Maryland, Kentucky and Florida. I am especially proud of Hospice of the Bluegrass, Northern Kentucky because I see first hand the care they give their patients and how well they manage their volunteers. My role is to either visit with a patient and their family or sit with a patient while the caregiver gets a break (respite). Knowing that these services are available is important to the family and Hospice of the Bluegrass N.KY does an excellent job of informing the family of all available services. They are also great with follow up and keeping the team informed. They also offer 24 hour in home care for those who wish to die at home and need supervision. I strongly recommend that those in the area who are ready for end of life care call them.
