Founded in 1958 by Larry Goderwis, Elsmere Ironworks started as a small custom welding shop. Today the business is owned by Larry's two sons John and Dan Goderwis who have transformed the small welding shop into a successful custom wrought iron shop, fabricating interior and exterior railing, fencing, estate gates and window boxes. Elsmere Ironworks specializes in hand crafted ornamental iron using old world techniques combined with new age painting and welding construction for quality products built to last a life-time. Elsmere Ironworks gives you a chance to design a custom wrought iron product that adds beauty and elegance to your home. All items are fabricated when ordered to assure quality and design. Our specialty is custom wrought iron exterior and interior railing, fencing, window boxes and gates. Our customers range from large contracting businesses to small residential jobs. All of our products are made to our customers specifications. We use a baked on powder coat finish with multiple color to choose from. Elsmere Ironworks is extraordinary! Top notch service and craftsmanship. We needed to add a 25 ft. custom curved railing to our patio. I looked at their website, picked out a few examples and emailed them for a quote. I never met with anyone in person until the day that the railing was installed. The measurements were taken while we were at work and I expected something to go wrong, due to the shape of the patio and custom nature of the product - custom measurements almost always seem to need to be adjusted. When the installers started their work, the railing was beautiful and it fit absolutely perfectly - amazing! The railing adds a beautiful finish and character to the patio and is my favorite single feature. I wish I had the need for more of their creations, because they are knowledgeable, creative, professional, and helpful through the entire process.

Very happy with the work Elsmere did. The installed railing and gates look great. We needed the railing to curve to follow our patio. We also curved the hand rails going down some steps. Everything turned out great. They showed up when they said they'd show up and called when they were in route. Installers even worked when it was extremely cold, single digits.

Elsmere ironworks came out within a few days of my contacting them, repaired the problem, and left no sign of anyone having been there working. I don't have a frame of reference for price, since I have never hired anyone to do this kind of work (my general contractor had a sub do the original fence).

My husband and I visited John at his office to discuss our ideas, and he was very professional and easy to work with. He emailed us detailed drawings before making the table base so that we were all on the same page. The work exceeded our expectations and looks fantastic! (Approx size: 23" L x 20" W x 22" H)

Shortly after the one year warranty on the railing going up the steps , the paint started peeling. This did not happen to the rest of the railing they'd installed. My painter said the step railing had not been primed by Elsmere. Elsmere wouldn't do anything about it. I have had to pay to have the primer and paint redone every year or two since then. It's an ongoing extras expense. When I saw Angie's List good rating on Elsmere, I felt I had to do my own rating. I've now hired another of your recommended railing companies to see if they can fix this ongoing problem.

It helped to make our project excellent! Very professional job. I also was impressed by their use of a personal card of thank you, an extra touch that is so often forgotten today. Really nice guys and very professional and a family owned business. I also give the guys my appreciation that they did this in the middle of winter with only one day of delay due to snow. It has really helped the appearance of the property.

What a class act these folks are! We earlier had them do our entry stairs and recently brought them back for some dangerous side-garden stairs. The temp was 1 (yes, one) degree and the the two installers politely introduced themselves and worked with us to find water and electric sources. Two hours later they were done with the second exceptionally craftsman-like installation at our 110-year-old home. And I had to argue with them to take tips for a couple of much-needed hot lunches.

Highly recommend Elsmere! From our initial meeting all the way through the wrought iron railings being installed, Elsmere was customer focused and one of the best service providers I have had the chance to hire and work with. Totally exceeded my expectations. This is a great family business to work with. They take pride in their work and it shows. I gave them a picture of a high end vanity base from a design magazine as a guide to create want we wanted for our buffet cabinet. They fabricated a beautiful piece of furniture for us. The piece was perfect. I would highly recommend them for any metal work.

Although it took a while to get an initial response back from them after I contacted them, we are very happy to have had Elsmere Ironworks work on this project. I was initially concerned at what the cost would be to have something custom made (since we could not find used or a re-purposed gate that would fit our needs), but the price was very reasonable. The gate and trellis look fantastic. The service from John, the crew doing the installation, and the office staff was superb. I would definitely recommend them.

Met with John to discuss options for modifications of our railing. A month later, a gentleman came to repair and install. He did the modifications with equipment on the back of his truck, cutting and welding the railing. Both were very friendly, efficient, and take pride in their work. Great job! I would highly recommend this company to anyone with small detailed modifications, such as ours, or with a new custom design.

John Goderwis is a principal at Elsmere Ironworks. John came to our house to consult on a challenging project. We had an antique railing installed on the edge of our deck with very ornate castings. We wanted him to create banisters down two staircases that would look appropriate with the pattern in our antique railing which was approximately 150 years old. John did extensive research to find a company that still had the same pattern. He was able to modify the decorative part of the design to make it work for going down a short flight of steps in three areas. The workmanship was excellent and we were delighted with the quality of the work. The installers had to make a slight modification to make the banisters fit. They did the cutting and re-welding right on site so they did not have to take the work back to the shop. This project took a long time to complete (several months) but we were not in a hurry. The end result far exceeded our initial expectations. They are not inexpensive but they are reasonable for the amount of time required and the level of professionalism delivered. We would recommend the without hesitation especially if you have a complicated job and expect expert craftsmanship and are willing to pay for it.
