My adult male was a different story. He had never been to the vet and he was poorly fed and cared for at his old home. While the doc gave him an overall clean bill of health, he had very rotten teeth, which caused the follow up dental visit (at the same place). Again they sat down with me and went over options for surgery and I opted out of another $200 worth of tests and treatments. The surgery went off without a hitch. Since then, he has started to smell better (his teeth were so rotten, he couldn't properly clean himself) and he is slightly more energetic.
After both surgeries, I was given a regime of home treatment, to continue care, and a follow up appointment was scheduled for the doc to make sure everything was going OK. The cost of the follow up and the home treatment were included in the original surgery prices. The home regime included pills and a syringe (with no needle) of antibiotics, both to be administered orally for the kitten, and two syringes, one of antibiotics, the other of pain killers, as well as and quot;prescriptionand quot; soft food for recovery of the teeth pulled. Both cats also got a single pill for tapeworm which cost something like $1.50 each (cheap)! The doc also 'prescribedand quot; fish oil over their food, but she told me rather plainly that we can buy it cheaper at the supermarket than she could provide for me.
Other things of note: One of the reasons I chose these folks is that I work long hours, and they are open late one day a week, and open on weekends. They are HAPPY to work around your schedule. Throughout the experience the really treated me, who they had never met before, as a VALUED CUSTOMER, not as a nuisance, or as yet-another-guy-to-be-dealt-with-before-I-can-go-home. They were going through construction, but even then the place was relatively clean. Everyone was personable, including the other animals and their staffs (pet and quot;ownersand quot;). Based on experience, I plan on going back for any future vet needs. I just hope it doesn't keep costing so much! $1300 right before Christmas really takes its toll. I have no idea if these prices are average or not.
