What a nightmare! Mr. Stoess wanted 100% of the money in advance, and only completed 50% of the work, and poorly at that: He ultimately ruined 540 square feet of expensive slate flooring. Here is a list of what was right and what was wrong:
services done correctly:

-

-

In this case ?slate? refers to polished and unpolished natural quartzite and sandstone tiles professionally processed, with scoring underneath for flooring installation; ?tile? refers to common industrial ceramic tiles.
We furnished the slates for the for the foyer, kitchen, study, and mud room. Stoess picked up the slate from local warehouse.
We purchased the remaining materials from Stoess, such as backer board, tiles, grouts, caulks, wall niche, mud pan, liner, and sealant.
We laid out the slates for the installer to help him identify desirable traits (such as patterns and mixing colors) and undesirable traits (such as scratches and stains).
Grouts, caulks, and tiles not used; but Stoess will not give us our money back for services not done or materials not used.
