Stoess Manor

He services are great however I wanted to give him a C because of his lack of concern for the community. He refused to repair a leak on his roof which caused him to close his business and that impacted the community!

What a nightmare!  Mr. Stoess wanted 100% of the money in advance, and only completed 50% of the work, and poorly at that: He ultimately ruined 540 square feet of expensive slate flooring.  Here is a list of what was right and what was wrong:

services done correctly:

backer board installed on all floors

• replaced drywall with backer board in master shower

• spacers used on all floors and walls

• tiles laid straight on all floors and walls

• layout is balanced on all floors

• pinwheel design has correct elements in foyer *

• correct slates, tiles and grouts placed on all floors and walls *

• picked up slates from local warehouse.

    

mistakes corrected

• grout too shallow in foyer

• multi-color slate laid as consecutive color (instead of mixing colors) in study *

• scratched slate laid in mud room *

• paint-stained slate laid in mud room *

• tile uneven in master shower

  An asterisk ?*? indicates specific instructions were given to installer.  Instructions were alternately followed (services done correctly) and not followed (mistakes).

  We furnished the slates for the for the foyer, kitchen, study, and mud room.  Stoess picked up the slate from local warehouse.

  We purchased the remaining materials from Stoess, such as backer board, tiles, grouts, caulks, wall niche, mud pan, liner, and sealant.

  We laid out the slates for the installer to help him identify desirable traits (such as patterns and mixing colors) and undesirable traits (such as scratches and stains).
