SPECK & HAYS HEATING & COOLING

I had an old (1998) A/C unit that stopped working the summer of 2012. The original service call went quickly and they showed up when they said they would, at a good price for the amount oif freon I got. They warned it was likely a leaky system and they warned it may not last that long, or might last all summer if it was a slow leak. Unfortunately there was a fast(er) leak and my A/C was again inoperative in a few weeks. They came out again, twice, but were not able to find the leak, as in - being able to point at it. They ruled out other areas and finally said and quot;it must be in the evaporatorand quot; without actually hearing (nitrogen test) it there. This made me uncomfortable seeing as how their recommendation was to get an entire new system instead of just a new evap coil ($1000 installed), because my system was so old. Their new system (digital thermostat, heat pump and evaporator + install) quote gave me a bit of sticker shock, having never replaced a system before. I had a complicated install because I wanted to convert to dual fuel heat pump from straight gas heat with A/C. And because I have a 5 ton unit. After shopping around, this was actually the best quote I got. Long story short I did not use Sand H for the new system and instead chose to piece together a system myself. Being an engineer with some A/C experience, and since I was not actually living in the house at the time. I was finally successful but if I had to do it again - I TOTALLY would have gone with the Speck and Hayes quote. I didn't save all that much money and it cost me 2 months and numerous headaches to complete the job.
I have used Speck and Hayes exclusively for the few times I have needed A/C or heat work done (just cleaning and system check, added freon another time at different house in addition to the above). Dean Speck or Guy Hayes has been on my job each time. They are both friendly and know their stuff. They have been in business and gt;20 years I think, and their prices are on the lower end of the scale if not the best in town. I send everyone who asks about heating and cooling guys to them.
